Junior School News

Foundation News!

In reading and writing we have begun looking at narrative writing and how to make a successful narrative.  So far we have looked at interesting characters through some common fairy tales and this week we will be learning how to create a descriptive setting.  We have also chosen writing goals to help improve our writing. Students will use these goals as a focus during writing time and once they have achieved this they will then choose another goal to work on.

In maths we have started to learn about the place value of a number and how to use MAB ones blocks and ten sticks to represent a number.

Year 1 and 2 News

Thank you to all 1/2 students on the way you have settled back into our classroom learning expectations. It is great to see you all back into learning after a well deserved holiday break!

Keep up the great work! - 1/2 Teaching Team

Reading:

In reading, students have been learning about the life of Banjo Paterson. We have discovered that Banjo Paterson was a famous Australian poet who has also worked as a lawyer and also a war correspondent. Banjo Paterson lived with his grandmother for a period of time and her house can still be visited today. 1/2 students were a little divided about this though as the residence is now being used as a cafe.

Writing:

In Writing, students have been exploring alliteration and how its use can entertain a reader. Students have been looking at examples of alliteration in books, characters and advertisements. It has been exciting to see the creative and engaging sentences that students have developed. They have also focused on using accurate spelling choices by identifying the phonemes within the words they are aiming to write. Students will continue to use alliteration when writing poetry in the upcoming weeks.

Numeracy:

In Numeracy, students have been learning about mass and length. They have been measuring classroom objects using informal units for length such as paper clips and blocks and using balance scales to compare the mass of different objects.
