Most Improved Senior Male Player

By Cam Belza

Joe Hough (Snr) Perpetual Trophy - Most Improved Male PlayerAwarded to the most improved senior player - this person wears the Number 1 shirt in the following year. Joe founded the Toorak Hockey Club in 1947 and is the father of Joe, Peter and Michael who all played senior hockey for Victoria. He was also a State Junior Coach and TEM Men's Coach in 1973 and 1974.

WINNER - MATTHEW SWEETNAM

As his coach I couldn’t be prouder of Matt and how he has grown this season. His improvement in so many areas has been so noticeable and mentioned by so many players and coaches, it's no surprise he has won this award.

Last year I saw glimpses of what he was capable of but this year his maturity and desire to achieve his goals and perform consistently at a high level was great to witness. He had a really consistent pre season and performed really well forcing his way into considerations for team selections weekly and deservedly earned his first game this season in the reserves.

He has really grown into a dangerous threat up in the forward line providing assists, goals and throwing everything into each effort, sometimes to his own physical detriment! Matt has a lot of talent and reads the game really well, I look forward to seeing how far he can go with another year under his belt. Congrats Matty!
