MARY LOFTHOUSE AWARD

Services to Women's Hockey

By Pip Dudley

Awarded to a person who has contributed significantly to the Women's division. Mary was a founding member of Huntingdale Oakleigh Women's HC, who in 1978 joined with Toorak East Malvern Caulfield HC to form the women's section of their club. Her playing career speaks for itself - she has played over 700 games for TEM (and is still playing!), 22 years of veterans for Victoria and several years for veterans for Australia.

WINNER - PENNY SENIOR

As with all our incredible award winners, there are so many reasons why Penny Senior is a deserving winner of the Mary Lofthouse Services to Women's Hockey award.

I am sure she would agree that being able to play hockey in a supportive and inclusive environment is at the top of her priorities. Her passion for this has been shining through in all her endeavours as Women's Vice President this year, and Women's Secretary for a couple of years before that. I, for one have loved seeing her influence grow amongst the women's section where she champions each and every player and tries hard to make sure that everyone gets the best possible playing opportunities.

Evidence of her team oriented leadership approach is the obvious connection she has with Claire, Jenny and the group of coaches and managers. They seemed to work very calmly with an impressive level of professionalism and the women's section is quite simply a positive and happy place to be as a result. It's quite likely there were moments of chaos underneath it all but they never let on. Well done to Penny on your role in achieving this!

Penny has made forays into other sections this year. She made a stellar debut for the women's masters team in the HV Women and Girls Round, and the umpires awarded her the BOG award. She also returned to the Junior section (having come through the juniors in her early playing days) and coached the U18 district team where again she championed the team's strong desire to play inclusive and fun hockey with their mates.

Last but not least, Womens Pennant E is where Penny can be found playing on the weekends. After many years being a rock in defence, she was let loose on the forward line and had an entertaining role scoring goals. As always we had a lot of fun and laughs and Penny's infectious personality and zero nonsense attitude was a part of this.

Penny, it is fair to say TEM Hockey Club loves and appreciates you. Thank you and congratulations on your award!
