MARY DOBSON TROPHY Contribution to Umpiring

By Leesa Needham

Mary (Mouse) Dobson Perpetual Trophy - Services or Excellence in UmpiringAwarded to a person that has been significantly involved in the organisation of umpiring or a person that has displayed excellence in umpiring.Mouse joined TEM in the early 1990's with her sister Andrea. She was tough, strong and scary on the field. But she also came to be known and loved by all as generous, kind, giving, protective and nurturing, and a great friend. She was a wonderful mentor to many in both playing and umpiring. Mouse died unexpectedly of an illness in 2008 at the age of 31.

WINNER - PIP DUDLEY

The recipient of this year’s Mary Dobson Award for Contribution to umpiring goes to the hardest working Umpire Coordinator around, Pip Dudley!

I think most people in the club will know Pip, such is her extensive involvement in all areas of TEM. She coaches juniors, plays senior women’s, Masters (men and women’s-she won the B&F for the Men's +45 team this year!), coordinates Indoor, helps edit TEMpo and organises umpiring.

Not only does she umpire games most weekends herself, she is also the club’s umpiring coordinator which is  a huge job. Pip organises the weekly rosters of our club’s umpiring duties for juniors, seniors and masters, making sure that each team has an umpire when needed.  It is often Pip or her husband Tony who go out to games miles away when it is hard to fill a spot.

Pip is a wonderfully enthusiastic supporter of our junior umpires. She encourages our young players to try umpiring and then guides them in their development by organising umpire coaches and mentors, umpire education as well as accreditation. She does a massive amount of work behind the scenes in many areas of the club but none more so than with our club umpires, not just this year but has done so over many years. She always has a smile on her face and nothing is ever too much of a problem for her, she is truly amazing!

Congratulations Pip, you are a very deserved winner of this year’s Mary Dobson Award !
