Building & Refurbishment Program - Important Information
It is amazing that we have now commenced Term 4. The lockdowns, restrictions, and uncertainty seemed to have made time stand still, however, we are now approaching the business end of the school year. There will be many events that take place before the academic year concludes, however the one that we are most looking forward to is the commencement of the long-awaited building and refurbishment program. Mazenod has been planning the redevelopment of the main building for over three years and we are excited to finally having this project get underway.
With the expectation of modern rooms and new learning spaces, there will also be the reality that we will have inconvenience and disruptions. To allow for the updating of the canteen and cafeteria area the canteen has been moved to the clubrooms situated on the cricket pavilion. This area has been cleaned and upgraded with improved flooring, power, plumbing, and lighting. While it will provide a satisfactory area to prepare food for the hungry hordes, the menu will be limited and the canteen staff will rely upon students pre-ordering their lunch each day.
Students will need to be confined to certain areas, as parts of the schoolyard will be cordoned off, allowing the builders to establish site sheds and store their supplies. While this will not be a major inconvenience this year as year levels finish and exams begin, it will cause congestion that we will need to address in the 2022 school year.
We will also rely upon the cooperation of families in keeping Kernot Avenue clear of traffic. With construction comes trucks and the only access for the builders will be the gates close to the cricket nets, opposite the Provence Centre. Though we have asked in the past, parents continually drive down Kernot Ave to pick up their son/s. The safety of all relies upon families allowing their sons to walk up Kernot Ave to Murdock Avenue or across the footbridge to Brandon Park Drive.
Enjoy the coming months as the weather improves, restrictions are eased and we approach the joys of Christmas (only 11 shopping weeks to go!). We will keep you updated with the progress of the build throughout the next eight months as Stages 1 and 2 of the Refurbishment Program proceed. Stay safe!
