Student Voice

Mr Culbert & Ms Sculley

As reported by Ms. Cook, the entire school enjoyed the efforts of Harmony Day preparations that were underway for several weeks. This year the celebrations included two assemblies, six food trucks and VCE VM managed cultural activities. Minus the food being served from the trucks, CESC students led the effort all the way.

For the 2023 Harmony Day students have formed performance groups, created the choreography, and practiced for many hours. Students helped develop the program for the two assemblies setting the run order for performances, assigning speaking and other responsibilities for student leaders, and preparing scripts. Students managed marketing communications for the Agora activities and student leaders informed their cohorts of the day's program.

This past month the student leadership team has also implemented the second annual student feedback survey. As with last year their instruction was to develop a survey that enables students to provide feedback that teachers need to hear. Questions they provided for the survey include:

  • I feel that I can be successful at this school.
  • There is at least one adult at this school I can turn to if needed.

The survey was conducted anonymously via Google Forms. A student leadership assembly including 150 class captains was held so that SRC leadership could stress the importance of this initiative. The class captains then introduced the survey in their home groups the following morning.
