Mr Churchyard and Mr Gibney

Term 2 has been a very successful term for CESC sport with numerous teams progressing to the Region stage of the School Sport Victoria Competition.

The Year 7’s were the second cohort to participate with the boys and girls soccer travelling to the Casey Fields synthetic center. Both teams demonstrated superior skills all day and will progress to the region stage of the competition in Term 3. The boys’ and girls’ badminton teams were extremely competitive with the boys narrowly missing out by overall points. The girls will progress to the region stage, cruising through most of their matches. Both teams created a positive atmosphere, showing connectedness and camaraderie. Finally, the girl’s netball team travelled to Casey Stadium where they relished the opportunity to compete against friends and foes. They played with great spirit and epitomized the joys of playing in a team sport.

The senior sports teams participated in the SSV Division stage of the competition, for many this will be the last time. The Senior Boys Soccer team displayed superior skills all day, with many in the team showing excellent leadership skills. The boys unfortunately missed out, conceding in the final minutes of the last game. The boys relished the chance to compete against their friends from the other local schools. The senior girls soccer team automatically progressed, being the only senior team entered in the division stage of the competition, so they will go out in Term 3. The senior badminton teams did themselves proud, with the girls progressing to the region stage of the competition. The girls netball team will also progress to the region stage of the competition showing strength, resilience and speed as they cruised through their division stage.

The Intermediate Division Sport dates collided with Harmony day, meaning lots of students were torn between sport and Harmony Day celebrations. As a result, we entered girls and boys badminton and netball. The boys badminton team took it to the wire, only to miss out on the next stage by a few games. However, the girls badminton team cruised to victory, dropping only a couple of points all day! They will progress to the region stage of the competition in Term 3. The intermediate girl's netball team were in action at the Gloria Pyke Netball Complex, where they pushed hard all day, only to miss the next stage in the final game of the day. Congratulations to all the intermediate teams.

The Region Cross Country took place at Cruden Farm in Langwarrin on Thursday 22nd July. The weather was surprisingly warm and sunny which made for perfect running conditions. Students represented themselves and the college extremely well, displaying the values of respect, responsibility, and courage. The track ran over different terrains with lots of hills to challenge the students. The fastest runner of the day was Jacob Kairns running 3km in 23 minutes. Students should be extremely proud of their efforts.
