Dear Parents/Carers, Families and the College Communities

My thanks and congratulations to everyone involved in Open Day which was a huge success. The weather was perfect, the College looked fantastic, our staff and students were friendly, confident and proud, and the food was perfect for the occasion. As always we look for ways to improve so if there was any ideas from those of our College community who visited, please feel free to let us know. A big thanks also to the parents who supported the Parent Stall which raised funds for the College Ball.

My thanks to the vast majority of families who supported their child attending. Next year we will look at communicating with local football clubs asking for their support in encouraging their players who are our students, to attend our Open Day.

Chainsaw Course

I had a delegation of Year 11 students interested in organising a chainsaw course and I have been very impressed with their proactive approach. Well done Ash Stone and Kayden Gwyn. At this stage we have tentatively booked the 5th August and will provide more information to students and families soon.

Mountain Bike Track

Speaking of proactive approaches, we had a group of Year 10 students interested in constructing a mountain bike track at the College. We have set them the task of identifying a route through a paddock adjacent to the Trades workshops which will enable close supervision to maximise opportunities for students to ride.

Morning Milking

One of the many reasons why our graduates are so successful in gaining employment is the work readiness skills they develop through our programs. Work ethic and commitment to the job are developed through our longer school days, weekend stock and our industry focussed Farm and Trades programs.

We are finding that some students, typically Day students, are not turning up for morning milking or not making swaps for weekend stock which puts pressure on the other students. Rosters are published well ahead of time and published on our website and in our daily lunch notices so there is no excuse for students not to know their obligations. Parents are asked to support us in maintaining the full range of strategies that we employ to prepare your young people for the work force.

If students don't attend their milking roster during the week, parents will receive a phone call from myself at 6.00am asking their whereabouts.  If they do not attend on a weekend, they will receive a call from the on-call senior staff member. Students not fulfilling their rostered duties without notification will be recorded as an unapproved absence and this may impact their 'Good Standing'.
