PREP

Welcome back everyone! Term 2 has seen the start of the Preps attending SMP every Friday afternoon. SMP is run by our AMAZING Grade 6 buddies and our first session was a blast. Students participate in activities to help develop their gross motor skills, fine motor skills and language skills in a fun way. We loved seeing the big smiles on the Prep’s faces as they learned some new skills with their buddies. Students are encouraged to wear their runners for these sessions.

During our Writing sessions, we have been learning about Functional Writing. Students have had fun exploring and writing different types of lists, cards etc. Prep B especially enjoyed making a very fun shopping list that included all their favourite foods.

We can’t wait to see what amazing things Term 2 has in store for us.

Year 1

Welcome back Year 1!

It has been an exciting term so far. Year 1 have done lots of learning in the past couple of weeks and we are looking forward to an exciting term ahead.

During writing, we have been learning how to write notes, lists and invitations. We have learned how to write shopping lists; bucket lists and we will be creating our own invitations. We have been learning the different parts of an invitation such as title, name, date/time, address/place and contact.

Edward in 1D had written an amazing creative piece whilst looking at a picture prompt.

Leyla from 1D wrote a grocery list of all the things that she would like from the shops.

In Science, we have been looking at changes to the sky and land during seasons as well as natural and constructed features around us. We have explored the different things we see and feel during the day and night e.g., sun and clouds during the day, moon and stars at night. Year 1 found it very interesting to learn that the Earth moves however the sun and moon don’t move. The students did a great job creating a poster about day and night as well as a sequencing activity.

During play-based learning, Year 1 have been learning about the past and present. We looked at how school was different in the past and what school is like now. Students enjoyed pretending to be the teacher using chalkboards, playing marbles and sorting clothes from past to present. The students were very interested to learn more about how schools were different in the past by watching a video and looking at pictures of everyday things such as houses and playgrounds.

In maths, Year 1 have been learning about mass, capacity, counting, place value and ordering numbers. We used rice to measure the capacity of different containers and sorting them from smallest to largest capacity. We have continued to work on consolidating our understanding of tens and ones. We have learned a new way of counting which is to make bundles of ten and the left overs are the ones.

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Dr. Suess.

Year 2

Dear Year, 2 Parents and Guardians,

The year 2 students have had a very settled beginning to Term 2. They have finished their work on shapes and fractions and are moving on to Chance. After this they will be working on Addition and subtraction. In Reading we are continuing to work on making connections when we read to aid our comprehension. There are three ways we are doing this…text to self or using a student’s own experiences to understand a text, text to text and text to world which is about thinking about things that they have learnt about as they read. Students are continuing to practice their functional writing skills and have been busy writing invitations, birthday cards and post cards.

Please take note of the email sent recently about collecting materials for our classroom work soon.

Just a reminder that students do not have to wear hats in Term 2 however we still recommend bringing a drink bottle to school for them to use during the day.

If you have any questions, please see your child’s classroom teacher.
