Dear Parents and Carers,
National Reconciliation week provides us with the opportunity to celebrate and investigate the richness of Indigenous history and culture. The year's theme, “ Be A Voice for Generations”, encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways and in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise.
It is about the work of generations of the past and the work of generations of the future to act today for a more just, equitable and reconciled country for all.
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements and explore how we can contribute to reconciliation in Australia.
As a school, we are committed to contributing to learning and sharing stories about the history, cultures and achievements of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This week the children will have an opportunity to share their learnings of all cultures including the richness of our Indigenous culture.
Too often we highlight the differences between our culture and that of others, rather than the similarities we share as human beings. This conversation is important in a 21st Century Catholic School. Through our conversation we hope to bring about an openness to and learning from other religions, cultures and ways of life and express our understanding of being catholic today to others in the light of Catholic tradition.
As a Christian community our faith life has been enriched by Indigenous Culture evident through our Whole School Prayer gatherings where we use the Aboriginal message stick as a sign of respect for the Word of the gospel, our acknowledgement of country before our school prayer and other meetings, our learning and teaching Inquiry that focuses on Indigenous Cultures, our signs and symbols across the school.
On Friday June the 9th as part of our shared inquiries, students will have the opportunity to explore, investigate and experience many aspects of different cultures and cultural traditions. To celebrate the cultural diversity of our community, the students will have the opportunity to participate in a 1/2 day cultural program facilitated by Cultural Infusion.
On this day the children will have the opportunity to explore different cultural performances such as “Indigenous Infusion' whereby children engage in Dance and Didgeridoo, view Aboriginal artefact and listen to aboriginal storytelling, ‘Rhythms and Instruments of West Indies’ whereby the students will explore African drumming and percussion instruments, and “Commedia Clowning” that focus on European culture.
Congratulations to the students pictured above who were selected to be the Student Representative in their grades.- FLW - Ruby & Arnold; FAP - Henry & Evelyn; 1/2AM - Isabel; 1/2VK - Carlo; 1/2VS - Ava; 3/4BP - Sam; 3/4BZ - Zara; 5/6OS - Amelia; 5/6GT - Olivia; and 5/6AO - Mia.
Fr Greg Bourke will offer Mass on 25th June St Fidelis at 11am. The St Fidelis Parish Social Committee cordially invites parishioners to a luncheon in the St Fidelis School hall on Sunday, 25th June after the 11am Mass. This will also be an opportunity to farewell Fr. Greg Bourke as he pursues his next appointment. If you would like to attend, for catering purposes, bookings are required. Please contact the St Fidelis Parish office on 93861224 or email: moreland@cam.org.au. There is no cost involved but a small donation at the door would be much appreciated.
Paschaline has asked that I thank the whole community for their support and love over the past few months since the passing of her husband Jammy. She has been overwhelmed by the generosity of the St Fidelis' community. She thanks you all and wishes God's blessing on everyone.
