Our Lady Help of Christians

On 24 May, in the Catholic church, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady Help of Christians.

The early church in Australia turned to Mary as no priests were present. In those days, it was the Rosary that helped to keep faith alive. Mary, under the title Help of Christians, was chosen as our patroness.

Let us pray …

Almighty God, deepen in our hearts our love of Mary Help of Christians.

Through her prayers and under her protection, may the light of Christ shine over our land.

May Australia be granted harmony, justice and peace.

Grant wisdom to our leaders and integrity to our citizens.

We ask this through Christ Our Lord.

Amen.

Mary Help of Christians, pray for us.

Pentecost

Pentecost is referred to the birthday of the Church. This is when Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to his disciples, just as he had promised. The Holy Spirit brought the gifts of joy, love, patience, kindness, understanding, reverence and courage. As a result, they were transformed and they were empowered to go out and preach the message of Jesus. These gifts help us, too, to follow Jesus’ way, the right way. We are filled with God’s goodness.

Confirmation

Please keep in your prayers the students in our community who are preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Holy Spirit first came to them at Baptism and it will fill their hearts with love again on June 9 in our Holy Family Church.

Come, Holy Spirit, come!
