Year 8

The Year 8 Extension math class got a chance for an excursion to METRO TUNNEL HQ, on the 5 May. We took a 40 minute bus trip to get to the city and then walked to the Metro Tunnel HQ on Swanston Street which took around 15 minutes. The Metro Tunnel staff helped us out as soon as we entered the doors. The class was split into two main groups. One class went upstairs to do some measuring of what they had to do to get the build of the Metro Tunnel up and running, while the other class stayed downstairs to learn the development of the Metro Tunnel. At a point the classes did swap over so that everyone could have a turn of doing both activities.

On this excursion both extension math classes learnt why the Metro Tunnel is being built, how long it will take to build and how much it will roughly all cost. This excursion was not only fun but really entertaining and different for both math’s extension classes as we finally got to get out of the classroom and wander around the city ! - Ruby Tran, 8 Brien
