Tracey Gunson Netball
Mater Dei Catholic College has once again taken out the prestigious Tracey Gunson netball competition. The girls displayed outstanding skills, determination, and teamwork, securing their back-to-back Tracey Gunson Shields in a nail-biting final against Kildare Catholic College. The Open team included Charlotte Priest (C), Ava Moller (C), Ruby Doherty, Ruby Gilmore, Cleo Buttifant, Elisa Cook, Elysia Smith, Olivia Hunt, Isabel Edmunds, Inez McPherson, Zoe Curry, and Zahra Hunt.
The intense game took place last Tuesday evening at the Equex Centre, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats until the very end. It was a tightly contested battle, with both teams demonstrating exceptional talent and skill. As the clock ticked down, the game remained too close to call, but Mater Dei managed to gather enough momentum in the fourth quarter to break ahead, securing a hard-fought victory with a final score of 32-30.
Centre, Ruby Doherty, was named best on court after displaying an exceptional game for the entire four quarters. She made countless intercepts, touches and provided superb feeding into the shooters, making her a most deserving recipient of this award.
The success of Mater Dei Catholic College in the Tracey Gunson competition extended beyond the Open team. Earlier in the evening, the Year 7 and 8 competition also triumphed which is the first time both the senior and junior teams have won together, highlighting the strength of netball at Mater Dei.
Congratulations to all players, along with the coaching staff; Mrs Courtney Dodds (7 & 8 team), and Mrs Stacey Curran and Mrs Bernadette Priest (Open team) for their achievements in the Tracey Gunson competition. We are confident that the Mater Dei netball teams will continue to achieve great success in the years to come. Well done, Mater Dei!
