Student Achievements

In a year that has been turbulent to say the least, the Arts has been a saviour for everyone around the world.  More than ever the Art department hope that parents, staff and students alike have realised the power of creativity in a time that has forced us to look at ourselves, consider what we most care about, and understand what makes us happy.

Despite all the challenges this year, we had two successful Art and Design shows, that demonstrate the abilities our students have in both talent and a voice to tell their stories.

Many of our students creative endeavours have been recognised in a broader setting.

KingstonArts OptiKA exhibition

Millie Jewell, who won the Media award for her year 12 artistic photographic series and who artwork (and herself) were the face of the VCE Art and Design show has won the Portrait Award in the Kingston OptiKA exhibition. This was in an open competition against semi-established artists.

It was a delightful surprise to learn then that year 7 student Emily Gough won the Video Award.

That is two out of the three prestigious awards won by MGSC students.  Congratulations. Thank you for taking that next step and exhibiting your creations to a wider audience.

Top Designs

Monique Wollard's year 12 Media work, a children's book, has been shortlisted for the Top Designs. The 'Season of Excellence' is the best work from Victorian schools chosen by a panel of experts and exhibited at the Melbourne Museum. (A sample of Monique's work from the online show is below.)

Congratulations to all the families for supporting their learners this year in undertaking their creative work in all visual arts, in and out of school and the formal classroom.
