Principal's message

Happy Holidays. Stay safe.

Dear MGSC School Community

This is the last newsletter message that I will be writing in 2020 and I want it to be an acknowledgement of the positive energy and efforts of the entire MGSC Community.

As I may have mentioned before, I endeavour to have a positive mindset. The glass is always half-full rather than half-empty.  Whilst we lost some of the freedoms that we would usually take for granted, we found comfort in the support of friends and family and gained so much.

My observations and learnings from this year are:

  • We learned to appreciate the small things in life and to treasure our friends and family more as a result.
  • We learned to collaborate with others and to shoulder our portion of the responsibility in all aspects of our lives.
  • Parents were able to see inside their daughters’ classes for the first time.
  • Teachers were able to have an insight into their student’s home life.
  • Teachers and students increased their knowledge of ICT 10 to 20 fold over the year which was empowering.
  • The STEAM Building will be completed by the end of term and will be ready for use next year.
  • The JLC was re-carpeted, the kitchen upgraded and the furniture replaced.
  • Many areas of the school were painted and the furniture replaced.
  • The gardens were carefully tended to and enhanced.
  • Life slowed down and we were able to focus on those things we took for granted.

Thank you to all of the members of the School Council and Parents and Friends' Association as well as parents and students who have walked beside our staff this year. We have felt supported by you throughout the year as a result and we hope that you felt supported by us.

Some of our staff will be leaving us. I thank them for everything they have contributed to the College. Best wishes to Greg Wallis who is retiring and Adam Howells, Mallory McNally, Ting Zhao and Dolores Doran who will be moving to other schools.

Bring on the Christmas Holidays – we all deserve it.

Be safe, keep well and enjoy the company of family and friends.

Best wishes

Linda Brown
