Dunhelen

Mrs Francis Scuderi
Welcome
Welcome to all our Dunhelen families. I would like to extend a very warm welcome to all our new families this year. We are hoping for a wonderful year and have started this week very well.
Year 7
The Year 7 students began on Monday and despite some nerves they all did very well. They were introduced to some of their teachers and got a ‘taste’ of some of the subjects they will be doing this year.
Year 8 & 9
The Year 8 and 9 students swung back into action on Tuesday and were very happy to be amongst friends again.
Assembly on Monday
Our focus in Assembly on Monday will be “2021. This is your year to ….” We will be speaking to the students about making the year what they would like and stepping out of their comfort zones to do things or attempt things that they have not done before. Things as simple as remembering to smile everyday can have an impact on a person’s outlook and so we will continue to encourage these young people to see what wonderful things they can achieve this year.
2021 Chapels & Assemblies
Chapels and Assemblies will resume as normal this year; however, students and staff will be required to wear masks while in the Chapel and Performing Arts Centre. Please ensure that your child has a mask with them every day.
House Swimming Carnival
The House Swimming carnival for Dunhelen this year is on Wednesday 24 February at Oak Park Aquatic Centre. A reminder, however, that due to government guidelines, parents will not be allowed entrance this year. The aim of these days is about participation and having a good time. While there is competition involved, it is not the main objective of the day. We are trying to instill in students a sense of achievement, house spirit and good sportsmanship. Please do encourage your child to get involved and reiterate that it is not about the winning, but about the fun.
College Uniform
Students should be in correct uniform every day. The uniform policy is on the My Aitken portal. Parkas can only be worn if students are also wearing their jumper and blazer. It is an optional item of uniform and should not take the place of the jumper or blazer. Students can attend school in PE uniform on days they are timetabled to have PE. The only jewellery allowed is one earring per earlobe and a watch. Your assistance with maintaining our standards and expectations is gratefully appreciated.
I look forward to a productive year, working as a team for our young people.
