IEC News

This term, Evan's IEC had quite a number of engaging literacy programs, all of which are offered by the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF).

Level 3 students of stages 4 and 5 had the opportunity to further develop their story-telling and poetic skills by participating in the Hip-Hop and Spoken Word workshops. The students look forward to these workshops where they learn to Beatbox, think creatively, work as a team as well as express their opinions and feelings by sharing their narrative through poetry, music and hip-hop. These programs run by Shannon and Zainab, are aimed at improving students’ literacy by developing their knowledge and application of English language techniques in spoken and written word.

Through the Literacy Pack program students were provided with free learning and literacy supplies that they may need for the school year – such as pencils, pens, eraser, sharpener, colouring pencils, maths set, exercise books, highlighters, to name a few, all packed into a fun and reusable little bag!

Evans IEC has now initiated a reading program with excellent-condition, pre-loved books that we received from ALNF to be used for our little Share-A-Book library. The books, are sorted according to the level of language ability. Students have an allocated time when they can borrow/return books they read and are also encouraged to write a short review of the book. The program aims to revive the pleasure of reading books.
