Open Touch Football

We would like to congratulate our Open Boys Touch Football team for making it to round three of the Sydney West knockout competition. They played Girraween High School in their first game. It was a home game, so many students and teachers were able to support and cheer the boys on. Their teamwork and great efforts secured the win 9-1. For their second game, we had to travel to Riverstone High School. After a slow, close start to the game, the boys were able to pull through and displayed great sportsmanship and a good attitude towards the game. Unfortunately, their game against Northmead Creative and Performing Arts High School led to a loss but our boys showed great dedication and perseverance.

The following students did an excellent job representing Evans High School in the team:

Stuart, Cody, Noah, Brayden, Arshad, Ashmit, Rohan, Christian, Ray, Jake, Chris, Jordan, Jai and Sequoia.

Well done boys!

CAPA

It’s been an extremely busy start to 2021 for CAPA. Our Year 12 Visual Arts, Music and Dance students have been working hard on their major projects. Once again, we are incredibly proud of the growth and development of their skills and you can see the success of our students by viewing our concerts shared through the Evans High School's Facebook page.

Beyond the HSC, students across all years have been producing high quality practical projects, with some classes attending excursions to Art Express at the Art Gallery of NSW and Photography sessions at Nurragingy Reserve. Year 7 Visual Arts have been working hard to develop their drawing skills and recently produced a detailed "Illuminated Manuscript" for their first assessment task. In Music, they have learnt to play songs on the keyboard and are beginning to learn how to play chords on the ukulele. Year 8 students have explored dreamtime stories in Visual Arts and created photograms in the dark room. In Music, they researched their favourite musicians and are beginning to form bands to play Billie Eillish’s “Bad Guy”.

In elective classes, Visual Art students have been developing skills in drawing and lino printing. MADDFEST has been the primary focus of our Photography, Dance, Music and Drama classes. We are incredibly excited to see the return of the biggest event on the Evans High School and IEC Calendar and we are pleased to announce that this year’s event will be expanded to include VIVID-style projections and a variety of food stalls. The concerts will be held on Tuesday evening of Week 10 (June 22) and we are encouraging all students and their families to attend. Keep an eye out for further details and posters on our social media pages.

Can’t wait to see you all there!

LOTE - German

Students in 7H, 7R, 8T, 8S, 9ONE and 9TWO have started a new topic in German class this term – school! In this topic, they will learn how to count, how to read a timetable, how to give their opinions on their school subjects, and the names of classroom items. All in German, of course.

To kick things off, I thought it would be fun to learn about a German school tradition. When children in Germany enter kindergarten (kindergarten is a German word, by the way!), they all receive a Schultüte (pronounced shool-too-teh), which is a giant decorated cone filled to the brim with sweets and stationery.

You might have seen some students walking around with mini versions of these. This is because we spent the first lesson of the new topic making them. Have a gander at what some of your peers created below.
