Ms Sarah Emmanual

Community Liaison Officer

This week, a group of enthusiastic parents met together for the first time as part of our new Parent and Friends group at Evans. Our Principal, Ms Pretlove discussed the reason for establishing a new parent & community group within our school. We look forward to building that sense of community at Evans, as well as allowing our parents an opportunity to share their voice. Parent involvement is incredibly important in our school. Did you know that parent representatives are involved when recruiting new teachers and developing the school plan?

Ms Pretlove gave us a short introduction to the compressed curriculum that will be rolling out in Term 4, 2022. A Compressed Curriculum Information session will be held for all parents later this year.

This first meeting was a great opportunity for conversation and a chance to hear from each of the parents. Ms Pretlove shared that Evans High School will celebrate 50 years in 2022. The school is planning a number of celebration events for next year and we look forward to hearing about some fantastic ideas from our parent body. Please get in touch if you would like to be involved. At our meeting, parents were asked to think about a suitable name for this group moving forward. If you have any suggestions, we would love to hear your thoughts.

Mrs Mee Lin Liau, Deputy Principal of Evans IEC, attended our meeting and shared details on our IEC and the importance of this program. Evans High School is looking forward to hosting 16 IEC schools from around NSW for an Oratory Showcase in June. This Showcase is designed to build confidence within our students as they tell their story. This high challenge and high support opportunity is a real celebration of students' success.

Ms Tanya Newsome, our Careers Advisor, shared some great opportunities available for our students when they leave school. It was lovely to hear some fantastic discussion from our parents too. Tanya also gave us a short tour of the reptiles in our library. What a fantastic educational resource available for our students.

At each meeting, we will offer a faculty focus session. This will offer parents the chance to meet the Head Teacher, see some of the classrooms and hear more about what our students are working on in each faculty.

We encourage you to come along to our next meeting on June 15th, at 6:00pm in the Staff Common Room.  At this meeting we hope to give this group a name. For our June Faculty Focus, we will hear from Mr Saheeb Khan who is the  Head Teacher for Mathematics. We will try to keep the meeting length to an hour so we don’t take up too much of your time. As a group it was decided that we would meet on the third Tuesday of each month. If you can mark these meetings in your calendar, we’d love you to come along.

We look forward to welcoming a few more faces to our next meeting. Come along on June 15th for a cuppa, refreshments and a chance to get involved. To book into our next meeting please register online using the link below. This will help us safely cater for the meeting.
