Principal Report

A message from the Principal

Ms Nerina Pretlove

Things are slowly returning to normal!

After a long break and, on the first cold night of the year, we welcomed back our Evans Parents Group on Tuesday evening. It was wonderful to see both new and old faces as we began to rebuild our group. Our first meeting was addressed by Ms Tanya Newsome who spoke about her essential role as our Careers Adviser in supporting our students in their post schooling destinations, whether it be to work, university or TAFE. She later took everyone on a tour of our innovative and growing reptile program to meet some of our lizards and snakes and to speak about how it has engaged students across subject areas including Science and Geography as well as improving their well-being.

The aim of this parent group is to support the school to grow and thrive and for it to play an active role in school planning and future directions, staff employment processes, celebrations and events, fund raising and to build our community connections.  Next year marks the 50th anniversary of Evans High School, so there is much to do!

We plan to meet from 6.00pm to 7.00 pm on the third Tuesday evening of each month during term time and would like to invite you to join us from 6.00pm to approximately 7.00pm in the school’s Library.

Our next meeting is on Tuesday 15 June.  If you would like to join us and for more information, please contact our Community Liaison Officer (CLO), Sarah Emmanuel on 9621 3622 or through her email: sarah.emmanuel@det.nsw.edu.au

Over the next few weeks, we have some fantastic events, including the return of MADDFEST – a great evening to celebrate the performance and arts in our school; the Intensive English Centre (IEC) Oratory Showcase – students from 15 IECs from across the state come together in a huge public speaking event and the celebrations of NAIDOC Week. In addition, the Senior Parent and Teacher night will take place on Tuesday evening next week to support the academic progress of our Year 11 and 12 students.

From time to time, issues arise and I encourage you to make contact with key personnel in the school as a first step to support students and to resolve situations. Contact can be made through our wonderful staff in the Front Office, classroom teachers, Year Advisers, Head Teachers, Deputy Principals and Principal.

We are looking forward to seeing more of you at our coming events.
