Year 8 Project Rockit Incursion

On Monday, 17 May, our Year 8 students attended the “Project Rockit” incursion, which was an opportunity to build on the connections created in Year 7, particularly relationships, skills and knowledge.

“Project Rockit” offered an enjoyable workshop catering to Australia's youth-driven movement against (cyber)bullying through role-plays, activities, experiments and group discussion, core outcomes were realised by students safety which was driven through strength-based, interactive learning.

This incursion encompassed the development of cultural, ethical, personal and social capabilities and critical and creative thinking - all key elements of the Victorian Curriculum. These learnings will be regularly visited in our DISCovery curriculum.

Year 9 Careers Education: "My Career Insights"

I would like to congratulate all Year 9 students who completed their NAPLAN testing in Week 4. I was incredibly proud of how maturely the students acted in a formal testing environment and how they understood the importance of the testing. In addition, I am sure that they will approach this round of Remote Learning with resilience and responsibility for their learning.

NAPLAN results are one of the ways we determine which students are offered the opportunity to begin completing a VCE subject in Year 10. Further information about subject selection will be discussed in Term 3 when students know what subjects are available to them in Year 10 and understand how to complete the subject selection process.

All Year 9 students are being provided with a valuable Career Education opportunity from the Department of Education (DET) and the State Government, known as “My Career Insights”. During this program, they will receive suggestions to make informed decisions about their subjects for Year 10 and Senior School, as well as future pathways. Government Schools are covering the cost of this to ensure that Year 9 students receive more in-depth Career Education. The DET has engaged the Career Education Association of Victoria (CEAV) to deliver the services in partnership with the Victorian distributor of Morrisby Online, Career Analysts Pty Ltd. The program includes:

  • an online personal career discovery tool that identifies potential suitable careers in a report
  • analysis of their career assessment report by an accredited career practitioner
  • a follow-up one-on-one career counselling session to discuss the outcomes of their assessment and future options - this may occur via a Zoom interview.

The profiling assessment will begin during DiSCovery classes starting June 7th. An event has been posted on Compass to allow permission for your child to participate in this opportunity.

In August, students will be given time to have a one-on-one careers counselling session to discuss their outcomes. If students have any questions, they can speak to their DiSCovery teacher, Career Development Coordinator, Vanessa Ramsay, or myself. We're excited to offer this to our students, as we've had such positive feedback from students who have this in previous years.
