Student Leaders

Mrs Horoch and I recently attended the Halogen Young Leaders Day with our student leaders in Perth. This was an inspiring day for all involved. Our student leaders were able to listen to a number of great speakers including Josh Pyke, an award-winning Aria musician and author, Deputy Police Commissioner Paul Steel, Tracy Vo a journalist and television presenter for Channel 9, and head coach of the Fremantle Dockers women's AFLW team, Trent Cooper.

I thank P&C President, Kymberley Ritchie, and Board Chair, Brad Warburton, for taking the time to attend with our student leaders. Our student leaders had the rare opportunity to speak with Deputy Commissioner Paul Steel a little more than most as he is Mr Warburton’s manager within of the Police COVID Operations. At our recent Year 4 Assembly, the student leaders were presented with a special Halogen pin as a memento of their day and what being a leader means.

Swimming

Swimming lessons have started smoothly this week. Well done to all of the students and staff who are involved in swimming, as such a smooth start means everyone is taking responsibility for themselves and what they need to do. Thank you to the families who have labelled their child’s belongings.  We currently have a small number of googles, thongs, etc in the lost property tub outside the school hall that have no names on them.

Staff Toilet Block

It has been recognised by the Department of Education, that due to the increasing size of Burrendah PS and the configuration of the female toilets in Administration, staff toilets needed to be upgraded. A brand new transportable toilet block is being installed outside the staffroom to assist in rectifying this problem. This adult toilet block is also available for parent/guardian use. I ask that these toilets are used instead of the adult toilets located past Reception. It is expected that the male and female toilet block area will be open for use in the coming weeks.

ICT

Our new interactive whiteboards (IWB) have arrived and will replace the old IWB’s in Rooms 2, 3, 6, 7, and 18.  We are also in the process of purchasing 35 new iPads to replace the iPads in Cygnet Block which are approximately 7-9 years old. The new iPads will be shared amongst Kindergarten to Year 2 students of this block.

ClickView is an online program used at Burrendah PS. Teachers have received training using this program. It provides access to a large number of educational videos. While the attached link is aimed at teachers is does give a nice summary of this program.
