Do you have a pet?
Yes, I have a 10-month-old and very cheeky, Airedale Terrier named Betty.
What’s the best way to start the day?
I always start the day with a cup of tea, and a walk to the nearby dog park so Betty can play with her friends.
What are your hobbies, and how did you get into them?
I love baking, especially yummy sourdough bread. I also enjoy gardening, my Nanna used to own a florist shop so I love anything to do flowers, they remind me of her. I also love to hand-build with clay.
What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?
Relaxing by reading a book or catching up with some friends… and playing with Betty, of course!
What is your favourite city?
When I finished uni, I moved over to London and lived there for 4.5 years. I loved it, and have so many amazing memories, so I think it will always be my favourite city. I also loved how easy it was to travel around Europe, who wouldn’t love being able to jump on a train to Paris or Amsterdam for the weekend?
Jourdan Murray
Jourdan, a Year 6 teacher and gifted creator – from honey to wine!
What are your hobbies, and how did you get into them?
I think all of my hobbies follow a similar theme – I love to be involved in the making process!
I sew a lot of my own clothes. I have always been into sewing – I used to sew with my mum and grandma and in my early 20s I would buy most of my clothes from opp shops and modify them. Now I make my clothes because it is fun, much cheaper and I feel a sense of satisfaction from wearing something I made.
I garden. I love native plants and veggie gardening. I have recently planted out my nature strip with native plants which was a really fun project.
I make wine with a group of friends. We started making it three years ago and its now a bit more than a hobby – this year we are making 4000 bottles; some red, white, a rose and a piquette.
I keep bees. I actually have two hives now, which is really fun. I have wayyy too much honey which my friends and family are very glad to help consume!
Was the last thing you read/best book you have read?
I am a pretty big reader and generally have a few books on the go – aside from report writing time… where most things drop away! The last book that I couldn’t stop thinking about was Honeybee by Craig Silvey. I adored this book and read a lot of it with misty eyes. I am currently reading The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett which is the chosen book for one of my book clubs.
What's your favourite ice cream flavour / topping?
Easy. Pistachio with Nutella! I actually have a favourite ice cream shop too – Pidapippo. Every time I go I try to get a new flavour, but I always end up with pistachio – it’s the best!
What's one thing that can instantly make your day better?
Doing exercise or spending time with my friends or family. I often go to the gym in the morning before school and it is amazing how much better my day is when I do this! I also play netball on a weeknight and getting out, working up a sweat and focusing on something new always turns my day around – even if we don’t win!
What’s your favourite way to spend a day off?
Reading, sewing, gardening, spending time with friends, getting out of the city to go for a bush walk, walking my dog or going for a bike ride!
