VET - Construction

Build Your Own Dog House!

Students in the Year 11 VET Construction class have been working on a couple of dog kennels as a way to developing a wide range of industry-related skills.  It's easy to imagine the kennel frames as miniaturised replicas of full-sized houses.

During class time, students have been working on the timber joint-work for the framing, as well as completing the floors.  They are now using colorbond sheeting for the roof construction.

These projects are providing both practical and theoretical learning opportunities, with students needing to competently use a broad selection of tools: e.g., circular drop saws, impact drivers and cordless drills. Special emphasis is also placed on adopting safety practices according to WHS regulations.

Students in this class will gain a Certificate 2 in Construction - General at the completion of their Year 12 studies.
