YEAR 1 TEAM

Our Year 1 Team is so proud of our students and families for getting involved and staying connected in our first week back to remote learning. We love seeing everyone on our Team Google Meets each morning.

Here are five responsibilities to remember:

LET'S GO!

While our Physical Education learning environment is looking dramatically different at South Melb. Park Primary School, the greatest lessons taught this year will be that of resiliency, overcoming great challenges and making the best of any situation.

I couldn’t be prouder of how our students have adapted to and positively embraced home learning again. Please keep encouraging your children to engage in physical activity every day. Daily physical activity helps children feel happier and less worried. The role of physical activity on children’s emotional and mental wellbeing has never been more necessary.

We have known for decades that physical activity can lift the blues and improve our mood in other words make us happier and more resilient. Often the hardest part is getting started. Once we get moving our mood can start changing in as little as ten minutes.

Have a look at this week’s PE Choice Board on Seesaw for some simple and quick energisers. Remember any Physical activity is better than no physical activity.

DANIEL MORCOMBE FOUNDATION

The students in the three to sixes watched Australia’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson on Thursday 25th of June.  We were called to the 5/6s floor to watch the live video all about online safety.

We learnt the three ‘R’s which stand for recognise, react and report. This was to help us when dealing with strangers online and how to recognise it, then react to it and how to respond. We recognise by looking out for body language. We react by saying/typing no or blocking users if we feel unsafe. We report by telling a trusted adult about our feelings, thoughts and what happened.

We learned that our brain develops dopamine when we are happy. Technology activates it. It is good because it makes us feel happiness. Too much on the other hand, is not beneficial. Too much can actually make you nervous, anxious, scared or stressed. You might even have trouble sleeping.

Everyone really enjoyed themselves when watching the live video, and learnt a lot about how to keep safe online.

Please be safe online!
