3/4 Pollywoodside Excursion

The Amazing Recount of Polly Woodside

On Tuesday, 7/6/22 we went to Polly Woodside.

Firstly we went on a boring one hour bus ride!!! But we got there. When we got there we walked for a bit and then we had a well deserved recess.

Secondly we went into the shed. The first thing we did was watch a little movie about life on the Polly Woodside. Secondly we went into the barrel, the barrel is an optical illusion that makes you feel like you're rocking side to side.

Thirdly we went on the one and only Polly Woodside ship. The first activity was to go up to the wheel. I spun the wheel with Oliver. Next we had to scrub the deck. Eight people had to scrub the deck and the other eight had to shout SCRUB THE DECK as loud as they could. After scrubbing the deck we went to the crew’s bedroom. It was tiny and it had eight tiny beds! Next we had to ring the bell. If you rang the bell once it meant port, if you rang it twice it meant starboard. If you ring the bell three times it means straight ahead and if you rang it four times it meant all hands on deck. After the bell we went below deck and checked out the cargo area and tried to find the captain, first mate, cook and navigator’s rooms.

Finally we had to go on the boring bus ride back.

To be honest  it was amazing.

3/4A POLLY WOODSIDE REFLECTIONS

Ava - Interesting because the boat was really big inside.

Emily - Important because I wanted to learn about the Polly Woodside.

Tom - Fun because we got to watch a movie describing what it would have been like on the boat, turn the steering wheel and ring the bell.

Libby - Interesting because we got to see where everyone sleeps on the boat and what they would do on the ship.

Alex - Great because we got to watch a movie about the boat.

Spencer - Freezing because it was raining but it was fun learning about the Polly Woodside.

Lucy - Exciting because it was fun to go on the Polly Woodside.

Matilda - Fabulous because we got to do all the things a person on the ship would do.

Sebastian - Extraordinary because we got to learn about and do all the jobs that the crew would have done.

Kobe - Exciting because we could go and see all the rooms.

Blake - Fun because we got to be a sailor for the day, scrub the deck and steer the ship.

Noah - Fun because I like doing all the sailor jobs for the day.

Audrey - Fabulous because we got to go on a big Ship in the city near the Yarra River, and we got to experience an optical illusion (Go in a room where the room moved so it looked like you were on the ocean.

Adventure on Polly Woodside

On the 7th of June all of the 3 and 4’s went to Polly Woodside and it took 45minutes -1 hour long to get there.

First we went to Polly Woodside. The 3 and 4’s got split into our two classes. When it was my class’s turn to go up on the boat, first we got to steer the boat when it was stationary. It was very hard to turn the wheel even with two people.

Next we went to where the crew slept, there were eight beds. There were sixteen crew members. So eight people slept for four hours and the other group were on night watch for four hours then they swapped over. The room was very tiny.

Lastly we went under the ship's deck. Under the deck first we saw where Polly kept all of her cargo, it was very huge. Then we walked past where the cargo would have gone. After that one of the First Mates asked our whole class to see where the Cook, the Captain, the Navigator and the First Mate slept.

The whole day was super fun. I even learnt that Polly is bigger than the Endeavour!

Polly Woodside

On Tuesday the 7/6/22 the years 3/4 went to Polly Woodside.

We hopped on a bus to get there.

The bus ride was 1 hour long.

Polly woodside is at the Melbourne expedition centre

When we got there we had recess.

After that we went to the big shed.

There were two groups.

One group was 3/4A and the other was 3/4S.

One group stayed in the shed whilst the other was on the boat.

My group,3/4S stayed in the shed and watched a short film about life on the Polly Woodside.

In the shed there was a thing called the barrel.

Its purpose was to make you feel like you were on a boat.

We looked at the Artefacts in the room.

We got on the Polly Woodside.

We started it off with steering the boat like the helmsmen did.

After that we went to the kitchen or what they call it on a ship, a galley. Soon after that we went to where the seamen slept.

We got to ring the bells and had fun ringing them and learning what they meant.

Under deck was awesome. They told us about what the crew stored under deck, like coal and a whole lot of bird poo yuck!

The captains, cooks, navigators and 1st mate rooms were a lot nicer than the seamen's room. That's because the Captain, cook, navigator and 1st mate were higher ranks than the seamen.

In conclusion, we had lunch after that and we had a little walk around the Yarra river then we went home.

The End.
