Managed Laptop Update

It’s been three years since we started the Year 7 managed laptop program, and as we prepare for our 2023 parents to attend the next laptop information night, I wanted to update you all on the program. I am departing Melbourne Girls’ College in a few weeks, and I want to request that parents who wish to contact Computer Services for any IT reason, including their year 7, 8 or 9 laptops use this email address in the future: mgc_helpdesk@mgc.vic.edu.au.

We started the laptop program three years ago to allow families to purchase a device that could be managed for them by the school, including all repairs, and give peace of mind that expert advice was behind those choices.

As the first cohort nears the end of their three-year program, I invite families of year nine students to take advantage of this and arrange repairs before the insurance expires. We can arrange any repair needed, from a broken keyboard, damaged screen, or simply a computer wipe to refresh the device with the latest software.

I want to thank Wendy Keen, our STEAM/Digital Technologies Leader, for helping to arrange the laptop program and the parent information nights. Janice Raman, our computer technician who works with the suppliers to arrange laptop repairs and the repair technician himself. Raj comes in three times a week and goes beyond to ensure laptops are fixed quickly and without fuss (with the help of a free hot chocolate, naturally!).

I consider the managed laptop program to be a jewel in the crown of our Information Technology strategy. By giving peace of mind to families who want to be guided in their laptop choices and know that MGC has no monetary interest in the program, just a will to provide the best device and support possible.

Please contact us anytime with any questions about the laptop program or anything computer related at MGC.
