Year 5/6 Cybersafety Incursion

On Tuesday 3rd May, we had a cybersafety presentation. Two Police Officers from Victoria Police came to school and spoke to all the Year 5/6 students about how we can be safe online.

Some of the key points they made included:

  • Be aware of what you share
  • Keep accounts with personal information private
  • Think before you act
  • If you feel uncomfortable ask for help from an adult
  • Don't show information about where you are
  • Never meet someone in person you met online
  • Accepting things from other people online can be risky
  • Block and report users who make you feel uncomfortable or unsafe
  • Stick to your age ratings
  • Police are here to help you even online
  • Don't fall for someone's lies
  • You have to beware of what you share , things like your location, name , or age could be leaked to other people
  • Keep your social media account on private
  • Use a secure and smart password
  • Before you send a comment or message, think…
    Why are you sending it?
Who are you sending it to?
Will this message hurt the person?
  • Do not post a picture with you wearing an identifiable uniform (eg.School, sporting club etc.)
  • If someone is bullying/harassing you online, take a screenshot to show to your parents or the police
  • Nothing is so bad to the point where you can’t tell anyone
  • Kids HelpLine is available 24/7 to support you
