Year 10 Arts

DANCE

Students will develop an ability to create complex choreography that communicates a theme, story or idea. They will use the elements of dance and choreographic devices to help communicate their ideas. Students will learn technique and choreography from a variety of styles and have an opportunity to perform in a showcase. Students will analyse a professional dance piece identifying the use of the elements of dance, choreographic devices and production elements to communicate expressive intention.

Drama

Students develop different roles and characters to realise dramatic intentions and engage audiences. They perform devised and scripted drama in different forms, styles and performance spaces. They plan, direct, produce, rehearse and refine performances. They select and use the elements of drama, narrative and structure in directing and acting and apply stagecraft such as costume, makeup and lighting.

Students analyse and evaluate meaning and aesthetic effect in drama they devise and view. Participation in the school production is vital to successful completion of this subject. This may take the form of cast or crew.

Students use general listening and specific aural skills to enhance their performances and use knowledge of the elements of music, style and notation to compose, document and share their music. Students interpret, rehearse and perform solo and ensemble repertoire in a range of forms and styles. They demonstrate a developing personal voice and technical control, expression and stylistic understanding.

In a studio environment, students will plan and create a range of artworks across different mediums and, through this, develop a personal art style. They will use a variety of techniques and processes. Additionally, students will develop skills in responding to the Arts through analysing selected artworks from different periods from major twentieth century Art movements. Assessment will include a folio of artworks with accompanying visual diary that shows their process, and an end of unit extended written analysis with an emphasis on skill development. Students who enrol in this class should have done Art in year 9 or have some experience in drawing and creating or interest in Visual Art.
