Links for remote learning

Classroom Connect Groups

Each class is holding a Classroom Connect group once a week to give students a chance to link in with their friends and teacher.

These  sessions are being run using Cisco Webex Meetings. This is a product that has been approved by the Department of Education and Training as meeting privacy requirements.

- Email invitations are sent to parent emails that are on record with the school.

- If you are using an iPad, it is a good idea to install the app. School loaned iPads should have the app installed - contact us if it doesn't.

- The invitation has a link, a meeting number and a password.

- In some cases, clicking the link will open the meeting and you won't need to enter any further information. (Yay!)

- Otherwise, enter the meeting number first, a name and email (use the parent email) and click 'Join'.

- Enter the password.

We have had about an 85% success rate with families being able to log on and mixed experiences with how easy or hard that was. Hopefully after the first time getting it working you will know the tricks needed to get it going.

Please note that there will be a different meeting number and password each week.

Teachers will test out a range of times and days to try to ensure all students have an opportunity to participate in some of the Connect groups. We understand that there will be some times that don't work for your family, we are trying our best to find a happy medium. Let your teacher know when a time doesn't work, they won't be able to change that week's time but they can try a more suitable time the following week.

Teachers will not be running these sessions outside of their working hours (i.e. on weekends or at night).

The Quick Response Window

A reminder that your child's teacher will have communicated a 'Quick response window', which is a 2-hour block each day where they are readily available to answer questions. This is a great time to clear up those little concerns about how to do some work with the teacher.

You are welcome to ask questions any time, it just means that they may be focussed on other work (assessment and feedback, planning, meetings etc.) and might not be able to answer your questions quickly.

If you don't know what your teacher's window is, please check their communications with you or contact them through Seesaw/Google Classroom.

Technology Troubleshooting & FAQs

What online platforms are my children using?

Children in Prep, Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 are using the App Seesaw.

Children in Grades 4, 5 and 6 are using the Apps Google Google Classrooms, Google Chat, Google Slides, Google Drive and Google Docs.

Google Chat will be used by teachers to engage in direct conversation with individual students specific to that child’s learning. All conversations are saved, archived and can be accessed by the school at any given time.  There is no requirement that a student should accept a Chat invitation by anyone except their teacher.

Webex Meetings is the approved product for face-to-face meetings and classroom connect groups.

What do I do if I don’t have access to an iPad?

The school has set up a purchasing portal through JB Hi-Fi that allows families to purchase devices at a discounted price.  The link to the portal is https://www.jbeducation.com.au/byod/ and the school code is RNPS2020

Please note, there is a prompt to select Year 4 - 6 iPad Program, however parents with children outside of these year levels can also make purchases.

The school does have some iPads that can be borrowed out to families during this period of remote learning.  Please contact the school to make arrangements.

What do I do if my child is having error messages appearing when uploading work to their online platform?

Due to the increase in online traffic and depending on your connectivity at home, from time to time students may face slower than normal internet speeds as well as error messages appearing.  More often than not this can be resolved by either refreshing the webpage and trying again or exiting the app and logging back in.

What do I do if my child has forgotten their password and can’t log back in?

Once students are logged into their online platform, they will remain logged in. Prep - Grade 3 families can find their child’s Seesaw class QR code in their home learning packs that were sent out at the end of Term 1.  Grade 4 - 6 families that are unable to log back into Google Classroom will need to contact Mr Chatterton, Mrs Mann or Mr Burley who will be able to provide you with your child’s login details or unique class code.

How can I access parental controls on the device?

Parents are able to block or limit specific apps and features on your child’s device and restrict settings for content, purchases, downloads and privacy.  Please visit https://www.apple.com/au/families/ for more information.

Where can I find more information about creating a safe online environment for my child?

The Office of the eSafety Commissioner provides guidance for parents on practical tips to help manage your child’s access to connected devices. Please visit https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents for more information.
