Year 3 & 4 Melbourne Music Festival
On Wednesday 17th August, the Year 3 and 4 students will stand on the stage of the Melbourne Town Hall as a part of the Independent Primary School Heads Association Biennial Music Festival and perform items that they have been preparing in Performance Arts. Every second year our Year 3 and 4 students take part in this special event, which also involves combining with other Independent School choirs for a massed choral item. The children are always excited to be able to pick out family, extended family and friends in the audience.
Tickets for the Choral Festival will go on sale on Thursday 14th July at 9:00am via TryBooking. Remember to save this date in your diary in order to secure a seat! All tickets for patrons are $25 (no concessions).
Vibe Festival
A reminder that on Vibe Festival day (next Wednesday) Year Five students are to arrive at MyPEC at 8.45am and will be dismissed at 3.30pm.
House Lunches
Well done to our House Captains who are going through the process of organising their first special House Lunch for the year. Young House members are reminded that their BLT lunch will be held tomorrow in the Refectory. Thank you to Michelle Pittman our Boarding House Chef for her support. Young House members who haven’t ordered a BLT are still asked to join with their lunch.
Next Thursday, Laidlaw House will enjoy a Fish and Chip lunch – thank you to Robyn Rees for offering to deliver the lunches to us!
Ready, Set, Trot - Year 3
Our Year Three students have been enjoying working with Mrs Amanda te Boekhorst on a special programme offering, called Ready, Set, Trot. This is an exciting unmounted, introduction to equine sports. The next session will be held this coming Friday and students should wear their sports uniform to school for the day.
Eisteddfod Celebrations - Music
As I write, we have students at the Hamilton Eisteddfod competing in solo events. Bravo! What a fabulous experience for children to play before a wider audience and try their hand at musical competition. I know that many students have enjoyed the excitement of standing under the spotlight and some have even been presented with medals and cheques. A full run down of student achievements will appear in next week’s Newsletter.
Eisteddfod - Dance
If your child is participating in the Dance section of the Eisteddfod next week, please ensure you have made a note in the diary to the classroom teacher. This will assist them in ensuring your child can prioritise completing key assessment tasks and their Report Self-Assessment around any absences.
Year Two Assembly & String Concert Invite - 10.00am June 14th
For our last Assembly of term, the Year Two students will be sharing their work. A short string concert will be the culmination of six months’ work with our talented strings teacher, Mrs Kate Wear. The children will also be sharing learnings from their Year Two Little Passports programme – a new initiative that sees the class receive a monthly delivery from around the world to investigate.
Please note that Assembly will start at 10:10am next Tuesday.
Footy Fun!
On Monday our Year 4 to 6 students enjoyed a football clinic at Melville Oval with players from Carlton Football Club. The excitement was tangible! We even found some of our dedicated teachers gave up their time-release to assist the Football Clinic (they did appear to be dressed in blue and white though!).
Last weekend, Year 3 student Tom Hill also enjoyed his own football excitement. He was invited to be in the guard of honour as his team, the Cats, ran onto the ground. At half time he had the opportunity to play an Auskick game on the ground with the Penshurst team. A memorable day for Tom!
After School Care and End of Term Arrangements
Next week is the final week for the semester. School concludes on Friday 17th of June at 3:15pm. Please note that Afterschool Care will only operate until 5:00pm on this day.
Life Education Van Student Visits & Free Parent Session
Each year, the Life Education Van visits the Junior Campus children to help promote healthy living messages around food, medicines, exercise and decision making (risk taking). All sessions are carefully structured to meet the developmental needs and understandings of children from ELC through to Year Five.
Please note that a fee of $9.00 will be charged to your account for students to take part in this valuable programme.
This fee is heavily subsidised by Life Education fundraising and government grants. (The actual delivery cost per student is $17.00). If you have any concerns in this regard please contact the Head of Junior Campus.
We have scheduled a free parent information session in the Life Education van for parents interested in learning a bit more about the sessions your child/ren will attend. If you would like to attend this session on Tuesday 14th of June at 9:15am (before the Year 2 Assembly and String Concert), please book via Nat Povey at Junior Campus reception. 55711066
