I am aiming high

Take Home Reading Books

These will come home during week 4. Each child will initially borrow 1 home reading book from the appropriate basket in the classroom. They will be responsible for scanning the book themselves and then putting it in their folder to take home each night. Please help your child to read their book each night and make sure it is in their folder to return to school the next day.  Home reading is expected most nights, as we realise that families are busy and its not always possible to read every night. If you can help for a few minutes to return books each day please contact one of the Reception team.

Star Word Folders

Star Words (High Frequency Words) will come home during week 5. Each night that your child reads, they also need to go through their Star Words. Please read the instructions in the front of the folder carefully to gain further information. Each word will have an icon next to it to indicate if it is a visual word (one which you cannot sound out) or a word which can be sounded out phonetically. Once your child knows all of the words in a list, it is their responsibility to place their folder in the correct box to be tested during the day. As our classrooms can be very busy during the day, star words folders may not be checked and returned the same day they are placed in the box.

Homework Grid

This will come out in week 8, to be completed during weeks 8, 9 and 10. The homework grid will be placed in the front of the Star Words folder and the suggested activities are meant to compliment work that is done outside of school, not be an extra burden.

Reflection Journal

This will be kept in your child's navy blue book bag and is taken home every night and returned back to school each day.  In this journal, your child will have the opportunity to reflect on the learning that has happened during the week.  It will also include classroom information and home reading records so that you can support your child's reading at home.  There is a space for each day to record your child's home reader.
