Remote Learning in Religious Education

As with all the Learning Domains, the students are following a structured program in RE while they continue to work from home. Here is a brief overview of the work that is being covered in each year level.

The Year 7 unit is titled “The Word of God and The Old Testament”. We will be looking at the Bible as the key text inspired by God. We will explore sections of the Bible, including the timeline of the Biblical era. We will look at the Old Testament and the library of books that fill the Bible. In addition, we will also explore the composition of the New Testament and discuss some of the many Gospel (and other) stories therein.

The young men of Year 8, are working through “Participating in the Life of the Church and Community”.  In this unit it is intended that students will look at the various elements of the Church, with its hierarchical structure and the key roles within the Body of Christ. They will explore the variety of roles in which a range of people enact different key ministries.

The Year 9 students are working through the unit titled “Salvation”. We will be looking at the ever present elements of life; Good and Evil. We will explore the Sacrament of Reconciliation; its history in the Church and the liturgical celebration.  In addition, we will also explore the composition of the Church’s ministry of healing and how this blessing is constantly enacted in the Church.

In Year 10, our unit is titled “Exploring Narratives”.  In this unit it is intended that students will come to appreciate the relevance of the teachings of Jesus, to their lives. They will identify the main elements of the portrayal of Jesus across the four gospels, particularly in Mark’s Gospel. They will have the opportunity to apply Gospel themes to modern-day situations.  Students will explore the Passion Narrative and present an account of these events drawing on all four gospels.

In addition to these curriculum requirements, we will continue to provide the young men with opportunities for reflection and prayer. Please feel free to share our Daily Prayer with your entire family. The recent Anzac Day interactive liturgy is a good example of what we will continue to disseminate with families during this trying period.
