Early Learning Centre

The College will trial a full day option for ELC Piccolo students.  At present, our programme runs from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm.  We will trial a full day that will run through to 3.15 pm.  Parents will now have the option of choosing a  full day for the remainder of 2017.

The extended hours is optional and have been costed at $200.00 per term.  It will commence in Week Five of this term, with a pro rata rate of $100.00.  The extended hours will be staffed by Mrs Bernadine Kelvy who will work alongside Mrs Frances O’Brien.  She will be visiting over the next two weeks to introduce herself to the children.  Bernadine is a primary trained teacher who presently runs our After School Care on Wednesdays.

Departing Staff

After five years of great service to the College, Mrs Sharon Williams will be leaving us at the conclusion of Week 5.  Sharon has been a member of a vibrant Early Learning Centre team and, has also been an integral part of our Before School Care programme.  We thank Sharon for all her contributions to our ELC 3 and 4 families, and wish her well in her future endeavours.

Year Five Sovereign Hill Trip

Our Year 5 students returned on Friday after spending two days in 1854.  The students attended the Sovereign Hill ‘Ragged’ costume school.  In days gone by, Ragged Schools were charity schools providing a basic education for orphans and children of the poor and destitute on the goldfields.  They provided a basic, non-denominational education with an emphasis on learning trades and skills, which could be used to find employment.  The students and teachers dressed up and were living exhibits at Sovereign Hill.  Many tourists entered our 1854 goldfields classroom and witnessed lessons the children took in etiquette,  handwriting and arithmetic.  The students also attended ‘Blood on the Southern Cross’ and went tenpin bowling.  The highest score of 129 was achieved by a ‘senior citizen’ accompanying the group.  Special thanks to Mrs Rachel Vallance and Gapper Miss Bec West for their support of the students over the three days.  The Year Fives were wonderful ambassadors for the school.

Walk Safely to School Day

On Friday 11th August, we will participate in the annual national Walk Safely to School Day.  This is a community event seeking to promote road safety, health and environment.  We ask that students be dropped off at Senior School to meet their Myrniong teachers on the Neil MacLean Hockey Court to walk together to Myrniong, a distance of approximately 1.5km.  Bus travellers will be dropped off at the Senior School.  Piccino students may only join the walk if they are accompanied by a parent.  We invite all parents to join the walk.  Students in Before School Care or students transported directly to Myrniong will be supervised in walking a similar distance around the oval.

Art

Students have been busily preparing their ceramic artworks for the upcoming Arts Festival in Week 6.  The art room is seeking donations of small succulents, cacti or indoor plants for students to fill their ceramic vessels.  If you are able to assist, please send these in with your children or drop them off at reception.  Thank you.
