Relevant Information About Our Brains:

The Queensland Brain Institute has shared this free resource with us this week. Their website also has many interesting things targeting brains of all ages and is well worth a look! The Brain: Learning and Memory dispels myths about learning, provides tips for studying, and explores factors that improve academic outcomes and the ability to learn at any age. To coincide with the new school term, the magazine also includes a downloadable poster with practical tips for students to boost studying and learning.

Library use for class time:

It has been a busy and productive week at the Senior School Library. Year 10 Science has been in for several sessions on their Forces research task. Exploring the digital resources with them while also referring them to hard copy books is very rewarding for them and for us. One thing we learned from the information provision angle was that our technology Encyclopedia is now way too old!

Students can access a range of digital material through Oliver (which is our catalogue) and they can get to this from the SIMON home page. Some digital references can be accessed by direct link and others require a password – details are on the Oliver homepage for access outside library opening times, and the comfort of their own homes if they have Internet accessible to them.

Forthcoming Blog posts:

In train, but not yet published, some great photos of Year 6 students using our set of 1000 planks!  And our Year 5 Library lesson on further Sustainable Development Goals for our planet.

Premiers’ Reading Challenge Champions:

Last week I referred to Premiers’ Reading Challenge Champions, and made the comment that no Senior School student had enrolled. My sincere apologies to Charlotte Millear of Year 6 who is enrolled and has already shown me a note from home verifying the 3 books she has logged and giving permission for publication.

Please be aware that you need to tell us that your son or daughter has read the books they have logged – we will not verify their reading until we get that message. We also need written permission to tell the Premiers to publish your child’s name on the honour roll. Email to me is one option.

Thanking you,

Mrs Margaret Simkin
