SCHOOL COUNCIL

Nominations for vacancies for the 2019 School Council closed yesterday (Monday) at 4:00pm. We received four nominations for the four vacant parent positions by the close of nominations.

I therefore declare Anna Wettenhall, Sandra Maxfield, Minh Tran and Arbel Givargis elected unopposed. There were three nominations for the three vacant DET places. I therefore declare Jeanette Baker, Chellee Plumb and Hannah Vesikko elected unopposed.

There are also now 3 casual vacancies in the parent category and one two year vacancy in the community category. All of these positions will be filled through a co-opted process at a meeting to be held at 7:00pm on Monday March 18 before the regular School Council meeting at 7:30pm.

Thank you to Adam Davis, Amit Temurnikar and Lucy Prysten for offering to fill  these positions.

If there is anyone else who may be interested in filling the last position, please email or call the school office if you would like more details.

We would particularly like to hear from anyone who may be able to help with our facilities subcommittee. If you feel you have any expertise in this area, please contact us as soon as possible.

Thank you to all parents who put themselves forward and we look forward to meeting you all at the next meeting.

SENIOR STUDENTS

It was fantastic to hear our year 6 students praised for their manners and the way they conducted themselves in classrooms last week by visitors to our school.

They are a credit to their families and the school, and have set a high standard for the rest of the students.

I also asked some new students last week how they were liking our school and the response was “Awesome!”

It makes myself and all the teachers really proud to be part of the MPS community, and our students should be proud of how they presented themselves.

PUPIL FREE DAYS 2019

The final meeting of the 2018 School Council was held last night. At the meeting, the dates for the final two pupil-free days were approved.

Please note the following dates:

Tuesday 23 April

Monday 4 November

PARENT INFORMATION NIGHTS LAST WEEK

Thanks to all families who were able to come along last week and meet the teaching teams at each level, and hear about some of the curriculum that will be covered in their child’s year in 2019.

We hope you all enjoyed the night and we thank you for your attendance.

PREP WELCOME NIGHT

Please check the notice that went out last week and the reminder sent on Compass. We would love to finalise our numbers as soon as possible for catering purposes on the night.

Thanks to the Grade 1 parents who have helped to organise the night and welcome new families to our school.

Please remember this is for all Prep families, even if you have been at our school with an older sibling.

CLASS REPRESENTATIVES

Each year, each class has one or two parent representatives (Class Rep) to act as a conduit at times between teachers and parents, to welcome new families to the class and to assist with fundraising.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact your child’s class teacher. Some classes already have at least one person who has offered and some still need a volunteer.

One of the first roles of the class representative will be to take on the role of preparing the class contact lists (see below) under the guidance of office staff.

GETTING TO SCHOOL ON TIME AND ABSENT NOTES ON COMPASS

The school day commences at 8.55am, and it is important that students are at school by that time, ready to start their classroom activities.  A good plan is to aim for an 8.45am arrival, as this is when teachers are on duty, and it gives students a few minutes to play with friends under supervision.

Please note that for families who need to start the school day earlier, our Before School Care program is open from 7.30am each day.  No child should be in the playground prior to 8.45am unless they are being supervised by the Before Care Program or attending supervised sports training.

If you are running late, parents must accompany their children to the office to sign them in on the kiosk. The kiosk is part of the school roll and, as such, it is a legal requirement that it should  not be used by any student. If your child is going to be absent for the day, you may enter that on Compass prior to 9am.

Late notifications cannot be entered on Compass, only half or full day absences.

Thank you for your cooperation.
