PYJAMA DAY
What a fun day that was ! Movies, popcorn, comfy blankets and cushion were all invited and we cannot even begin to express how grateful we feel for our families input and participation and the joy it brought to all the children ! Thank You.
RECONCILIATION WEEK
As we keep engaging in our experiences of our Reconciliation week, we just want to inform our families that the children are learning about the Aboriginal culture which means their Artwork, language, history and traditions. Children may come home and tell you about the things they have learnt such as Kangaroo and Emu dance, fire ceremony or using words from the Aboriginal language and community that we have been learning on Koori curriculum or NAIDOC videos on Youtube.
We have been doing our Acknowledgment to country, paying our respect to the landowners. "This is the land, this is the sky. Here are my friends and here am I. We acknowledge the traditional owners of this land on which we play". Children have been demonstrating their understanding and enthusiasm in learning about the Acknowledgment.
We have also been listening to the story of Bunjil (the Eagle) and Waa (the crow) and together in our Kinder room, have decided to make our own Waa and Bunjil. The teachers did the outline, while the children painted the recycled newspaper colour black, like the crow. They then drew their hand outline with the support of their teachers and then put it up on the crow for its feathers.
We also keep engaging in our Dot painting as well as our weaving for daily experiences. The whole purpose is to bring early awareness and understanding to the cultures they are surrounded with, build cultural competence and understand the differences that may gap from culture to culture. Our goal for children to remember that we may be from different cultures but we all live on the same Earth and we need to respect that!
SIMULTANEOUS STORY TIME was this week at 11am !! We invited the Toddlers and Pre-kinder to watch a live stream where a story teller read us the "Chicken Divas" book across all Australia and at the same time. The children were very excited to have the little ones over and made sure they all had a secure spot and comfy blanket to listen to the story. The purpose of the story time is to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6. We also encouraged all our families to read a book before bedtime to the children so as to build on one of their early literacy skills which is; Listening. We have four major literacy skills point; Listening that extends into talking, then writing and reading and they all work in orders.
THREE LITTLE PIGS
The children haven't stopped talking about the three little pigs stories, so the teachers decided to make our own theater stage and re-create the story with its characters. The smile on the children's face at the end expressed how much fun they had at pretending to be the wolf or the pig and building their houses as well. As an extension, the children are now busy building their own houses with some natural resources but most of them made blocks and said " all houses are made of bricks now! It's the strongest." We are always so fascinated to watch what they transfer and adapt from the surrounding environment.
WELCOME BACK & LET'S KEEP THE CENTRE SAFE
A big welcome back to all our families and friends after a while ! We really enjoy seeing their faces popping in throughout the day and we can definitely feel the centre going back alive ! We keep sanitising every half an hour, making sure children are washing hands frequently and drinking water. We would like to remind parents that in order for the centre to remain safe and in healthy conditions, if your child is showing any symptoms such as; cough, runny nose, shortness of breath, we encourage you to keep them home until the symptoms have worn off or to simply get them tested. It also allow the educators to feel safe and provide quality care to your the children as well ! We appreciate your understanding.
Thank you for reading us.
