Pre-Kinder
Welcome from Sarah and Naomi
"Here is the Land. Here is the sky.
Here are my friends, and here and I
We Thank the people for the land on which we learn and play
Hands up, Hands down.
We're on Bunurong and Wurundgeri land"
The Pre-Kinder children have been learning their Acknowledgement to country and have begun reminding their educators to do their Acknowledgment of country.
Please click the below video to see Sarah's Acknowledgement of Country.
These past couple of weeks we have been learning about the traditional owners of the land. The children have been developing an understanding on who the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are and the significance that they hold to Australia and how they have protected our land for a very long time.
The Pre-Kinder children have spent some time this week learning how to weave, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have use the traditional methods of weaving for thousands of years, they have used weaving as a necessity of their daily life by weaving baskets to carry water in, making a fish trap to catch their food and many other uses.
The children took inspiration for the colours used from their Aboriginal flag puzzle,
Caiden spoke of how he needed to go red, then yellow and then black because that’s how it is on the flag.
Keshi spoke of how beautiful her weaving was “Look teacher mine is beautiful."
Story Time
We have also been learning some traditional Aboriginal Stories with the children taking a liking to "When the Snake Bites the Sun" by David Mowaljarla the story tells of a mother and daughter sun that shone so brightly the world started to burn, and how the daughter was sent out on her own and came across two men, before being chased into the stars where she was bitten by a snake. The children have been gaining an understanding of why the sun sets and rices through this story and they are asking inspirations from the book into their own play experiences.
We have been welcoming many old friends back into care and so I would like to send a reminder to family's to please bring a family photo for our family tree. This photo can provide comfort to the children that are struggling to transition back into care.
I would also like to remind family's that it is not always possible for the educators to get a photo of every child every day. This does not mean that your child is being forgotten about or ignored it simply means that the educators are busy building a program for your child where they can learn and prosper into beautiful young children ready for their next stage of life.
