JSC News

This week the Junior School Council organised a fundraiser for our sustainability budget, it was a dress up day with the theme, WATER.  Whilst we were learning from home we had weekly meetings on Microsoft Teams.  As a group we came up with an idea. We all made posters with dress up ideas, the date and other information.  It was a gold coin donation and students had to wear something like an ocean animal or the colour blue.  We saw lots of great costumes and outfits also many creative ideas. In the end we all raised $530.

Prep Art - Patterns in Real Life

This week in Visual Art the Prep students explored patterns in real life. We learnt that we all have a unique pattern on the sole of our shoes. First, we worked as a team to help brush any dirt off our shoes. Next, we pressed our shoes into a ball of clay to print the pattern. Finally, we used Sharpie textas to make bright and colourful patterns in our clay print.

Bunjil's Kitchen: reopening Term 3

Bunjil's kitchen will reopen on Mondays and Wednesday only during Term 3.

As is usual on the first day of term - Monday 13th July it will be closed; the first day open will be Wednesday 15th July.

Please note Bunjil's Kitchen will only be open for lunch orders (via Qkr!) and there will be no over the counter sales.  This is to prevent large gatherings of students in the area in front of the counter where they would normally queue.

We will review Friday opening as the term progresses and health regulations change.

Our School Captains have been preparing a workaround to ensure assemblies can still take place, even though we can’t all come together.

Whole School Assemblies

Our School Captains have been planning options to ensure assemblies can still take place even though the DET do not currently allow whole school gatherings.  This week, they will run our school assembly via the speaker system, and next week it will run via Webex at 2pm on the Friday.  Each classroom will log into Webex to watch the School Captains presenting, on their interactive white boards or Smart TVs.    They will then make a decision moving forward into Term 3 as to how the students responded to each option and decide how to continue to run them and will explore the facilities available to the school to open the Webex assembly to our parent community.

An Update from the Marketing and Communications Team

Thank you so much to everyone who completed our Marketing and Communications survey late last year.  Apologies for the delay in providing an update, but COVID-19 has obviously been the focus for the last few months.  We have been working hard in the background to analyse the results and review our communications strategy though, and are happy to report that we have already made some fantastic changes based on the feedback received.  Overall, 82% of participants in our survey felt that they are either informed, well informed or very well informed regarding the question "how well informed do you feel you are about what’s happening at school and in your year level?", which is a great result.  However, there are definitely areas for improvement identified in the detailed feedback received, and we will continue working on these over the course of 2020.

Some key actions actions taken so far are as follows:

  • Review and implement strategy around Compass notifications, ensuring consistency with regards to the amount of notice and number of reminders given, based on the event/notification type.
  • Commence technical discussions with Compass regarding number of click throughs, and other potential improvements within the scope of using the tool.
  • Teacher discussions to ensure clear and consistent communication strategy across and between year levels.
  • Detailed Parent Guide for Compass Usage has been documented and can be downloaded from our Compass Portal page on the website https://www.beaups.vic.edu.au/page/132/Compass-Parent-Portal
  • Key School Documentation such as Statements of Intent, Year Level Term Newsletters, Stationery Lists, School Handbook etc have been added to the Compass "School Documentation" facility.  This is accessed under the "People" icon.  The information is a duplicate of information on the school website, but means there is a now a consistent platform for all school-related documentation, to avoid having to use a separate application.

Work is ongoing to review all key platforms used for communication, and ensure the best strategy across all.  Our goal is to have a fully reviewed, formalised, documented and implemented communications strategy by the end of this year based on survey feedback received and ongoing review, with a view to a further survey early next year to evaluate the impact of improvements made.

Library

Thank you to all the students and their families who located library books at home and brought them back when school resumed. There are still 217 books overdue to students. They need to come back to the library before the end of this term - the longer they stay away, the more likely they are to be misplaced. If students have any books still outstanding next week, they will be sent home with a reminder notice.

Street Parking

We ask our families to consider our neighbours when parking their cars at drop off and pick up times. At times, parked cars encroach over driveways and our neighbours call the school to complain. Please understand our wonderful office team prefer to avoid managing complaints from our neighbours and seek your cooperation and support.
