Fightin the Kaiser’

Last week, Year 9 Social Science students were treated to a performance of ‘Fightin the Kaiser’, a one person show which documents the horrors of war for service personnel during and after WW1. This, at times confronting show, provided students with a fresh perspective and complimented learning in Social Science lessons this term. Well done to students who were required to ‘assist’ in the performance…they impressed with their impromptu acting skills!

Years 7 to10 HPE

It has been a big week for Years 7 to 10 HPE students with most classes approaching the culmination of their practical activities. Year 7s have spent the term creating a Hip Hop routine packed with attitude, flair and energy. This week students will perform their final routine to demonstrate their creative choreography in front of their classmates. Year 8s have engaged in a Basketball Unit through Term 3, and next week will see the first annual 8A vs 8B basketball game. Year 9s are currently finishing their cricket unit, with the skill of bowling having been the focus this term. Our Year 10s have excelled in a tactical awareness unit, where they have demonstrated game strategies in a variety of unique activities including Newcombe-ball, Kabaddi and Tcoukball. It is wonderful to see our students’ enthusiasm and engagement in physical activity.

Humanities Week

Humanities Week activities have gone well so far, with students engaging each lunch time in activities connected to English, History and Geography.

On Monday, a number of students ‘mummified their mates’. Students were required to organise cards depicting the steps of mummification into the correct order and then they were able to put their newfound knowledge into practise by ‘mummifying their mate’ using toilet roll (that was recycled!). The results were fantastic, even if they did not relate too closely to the ancient practise!

On Tuesday, students pledged actions to improve our environment, creating ‘leaf pledges’ that were hung on a tree on the oval. By the end of lunch, the tree was awash with actions our students have pledged to take to reduce our impact on the environment. We are very proud of the pledges.

Excitement is high for the Humanities Quiz yet to come!!
