Year 6 Canberra Tour

Monday 12 September to Wednesday 13 September

Together with Mrs. Bryan, Mrs. Hodgson and Mr. Desmarchelier, our Year 6 students will be travelling to Canberra next week (Monday 12/09 – Wednesday 13/09) to undertake an education tour of the national capital.  Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.

The Australian Government recognises the important of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education.  To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $90 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs.  The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Looking Back in Primary School

R U Ok Day

Today we acknowledged RU Ok Day, where we remind each other that every day is the day to ask, ‘are you OK?’ and start a meaningful conversation with someone who might be having a difficult day. Students in the Primary School listened to videos, performed drama skits, and completed other activities whilst wearing a splash of yellow.

Public Speaking Competition

Years 5 and 6

On Monday and Tuesday this week, we were treated to a series of speeches written and presented by Year 5 and 6 students who had reached the final for their cohort. The speeches were varied in content – from highly personal reflections on mental health issues and topics affecting the students themselves, to well-researched investigative journalism-style speeches that informed the audience on topics such as nutrition, animal welfare and homelessness. Every student stood proud in the chapel to deliver their speech with clarity, confidence, and in many cases, humour. We congratulate all students who performed. The decisions for places were difficult, and again we thank Mrs. Eagle and Ms. Monnickendam for their adjudication.
