Celebration of

Learning

Year 1 Wicked Weather Incursion

On Wednesday 10th of August the Year One’s had an awesome experience with Mad About Science visiting and presenting their Wicked Weather Incursion.

The students enjoyed learning all about the weather and how different weather is formed. The students completed some experiments including making rain, snow and using ultra violet beads to look at how UV works from the sun.

Grade 2 Briars Day Camp

Last Tuesday the VERY excited Grade 2’s headed off on buses to their very first school excursion! We headed straight to The Briars for our Day Camp! After the children got off the bus and were introduced to the camp staff, they began their day of fun activities. Hut building, bush cooking, racing the push carts, completing the low ropes course and of course learning the game of Gaga ball! The muffins and fruit for morning tea and sausages and coleslaw for lunch were enjoyed by all in the sun. A very big thank you to all the parent helpers who came along and assisted on the day and all the staff involved. What a great day!

Grade 2 Briars Recounts

On Tuesday 9th August I went to The Briars. We went on the bus first. There was so many things to do, there was Gaga pit, hut building, bush cooking, low ropes and push carts. My favourite was the push carts because of the driving. It was fun.

 Blake Robertson 2EM.

First I did the hut building it was so fun. I liked the hut because it was sort of water proof. Next I went to have snack it was an apple, banana and choc chip muffin.

After that I did the low ropes it was very tricky, I kept falling off and I had to catch Scarlett and Blake a few times. Then we had lunch. It was a sausage in bread.

Finally I had Gaga pit, push carts and bush cooking. The first thing I did out of those was the push carts. It was fun and tiring. The second thing I did was the Gaga pit it was fun even though I got out of the game.

The last thing I did was the bush cooking. The bread was so yummy. My favourite thing I did was the bush cooking. The end.

Mieke 2EM

I went to The Briars. First was we need a bus so we went on a bus. On the road on the bus I saw horses and a cow out the window. It was cool. When we got there first we did push carts. Summar my partner was slow because it was hard work. Next I played Gaga pit. I was good at it. Next I went and made damper. I ate it. It was yum. Then I had fruit. I had a muffin with melted chocolate inside. It was yum.

Jade 2EM

On the 9-8-22 we had Briars Day Camp. Group one which was my group first did low ropes. Then my group and others went back to have morning tea, for morning tea we had some apples and bananas. Then we had push carts/gaga ball/pit. Then we went back for lunch, all of the groups had hotdogs, they were yummy. Then we did damper and then we did hut building. It was so fun.

Yesterday me and all the grade two class all went to Briars day camp. It was really fun. I was in group 2. First we did hut building and then we had fruit/morning tea I loved the muffins. We also did low ropes! I pushed Jayda when we were doing push carts. We did gaga put and I won first. Then me and my group made damper, it was really yummy. Then we hoped back on the bus, I was talking with my friends! The end!

Keeva 2K

First we went on the bus, I was sitting next to Poppy and I got the window side, I was at the front of the bus. Next we did hut building. Hut building is where you get a lot of big and fat logs and make them into a type of house. Then we did low ropes. Low ropes is where there are 2 spotters and the spotters help to make sure you don’t fall. Last but not least we did damper. It is where you get some dough and make it into a sausage shape and get a stick and wrap the dough around the stick and set it on the bricks next to the fire. I had a golden brown colour on mine. At the end it should look like mine and then you can have it with some honey, jam and vegemite. The End.

Foundation Fun

Our foundation students are always so proud of their achievements. From practising initial sounds to creating own sentences, making cards to take home to family through to taking up a 4 word challenge to create a story. Our students are continually immersed in literacy and making big steps forward in their communication skills. Our kids rock!

We are very impressed with the skills Koby showed building this amazing sword! He used the engineering techno booklet and without having anything explained collected all the items he needed before he started with the correct numbers! Then he followed the technical diagrams to build the model. Amazing systematic approach and determined perseverance! Great skills Koby! The smile of achievement says it all!

Creative play is a very important part of childhood development. It uses both sides of the brain, initiates discussion which includes using topic relevant words and usually introduces new vocabulary. It also gives students the opportunity to think through a process, define or label what has been made and improve their ability to create a story around their creation. This positively impacts their potential to write imaginative stories in the future. The added bonus? They love it!

Macey went fishing -she took some bait,

She didn’t go out early and she didn’t go out late,

Caught 8 fish to put in her pale,

7 fish were salmon and the eighth one was a whale!

The 7 fish were easy to put in the tin,

The whale was really difficult but still she packed him in!

Took her catch home and what did mum say?

Take those 8 fish out of here-

We’re having steak today!

Chick Cam

Isla's Chick's are doing quite well in their new home. They have grown substantially over the last three weeks.. Isla has loved the experience (although I’ll be happy to get spare bathroom back in the coming couple of months) haha.

Here is our three brown pet chickens that the chicks will be joining in the coming months..

Senior Camp Recounts

Urban Camp

We parked on the wet, chilly road next to the sparkling sidewalk, and I gave my dog Archie my last goodbye. When I stepped into the crowd of students at the train station, I started to feel nervous, and realised: when I get on the train, I’m not getting back home until Friday. I hugged my Mum goodbye as we were about to be instructed to walk up to the station. As I stepped foot in the train, I felt scared, a surge of energy fell through my veins, but all I could do was wait…

As we bunched up beside empty tables ready to enter the Pancake Parlour next to the Melbourne Star, people in the restaurant dining were packing up and getting ready to leave. Were we this noisy? (NOT POINTING FINGERS!) After we sat down and ordered, we waited… and waited… and waited… OKAY, WE GET IT WE WAITED LONG. But as we got our food, I devastatingly realised…

THE CHIPS I ORDERED HAD SOUR CREAM ON THEM. (WHAT A DISGRACE, DISGUSTING!) How preposterous! Such ignorance! The menu did not speak of such absurd, disorderly condiments! It was the best I had eaten around it! Once I had finished my DECEPTIVE main meal, I received my sugar loaded second course. I had hit it through the hole in a heartbeat as one of the best warm, chocolatey pancakes I had ever tasted!

The next chilly winter day, we left Urban Camp to catch a tram to O’brien Icehouse in Docklands. After the skating lesson with two professional ice skaters, we had free time to roam around the rink with our skates. I didn’t fall down once! I used the ‘switch’ tactic, which I made myself. As I circled around the rink, pacing swiftly near the ledge, I watched confidently as the other seniors clumsily tripped and fell over like baby penguins learning how to walk.

The final day came along. After we went to the Melbourne Zoo, we got to the station by tram, and waited for our ride home. After I got home, and sat down to rest, I wondered what wonderful camp we’d go to next year.

Urban Camp Recount

As I sat there on the train seat, heading into Melbourne, I was thinking about how I wouldn’t be home for three whole days! But I was going to take advantage of this! As I sat there thinking about all the fun things we would do in the city, a subtle exhilarating smile crossed my face…

It was late at night and after a delicious dinner at The Pancake Parlour, we were all on our way to Strike Bowling! My activity group name was the Piccaso’s, with Mr G as Pablo. In my group was Phoebe, Lydia, Ava, Lily, Ella, Marlee, Grace, And I. We ate our chips and played an intense game of bowling. We’d all arrived late so we didn’t get to finish the whole game but I managed to hit a couple of spares and almost got a strike!I came an equal 2nd place with Ava. We had about 70 something points and Mr G came first.(Making a huge comeback)

After an incredible time at Artvo and a delicious breakfast and lunch, the time for ice skating had finally come! I’d been looking forward to this one the most. We stepped inside of O’Brien Ice House and I got chills. It was absolutely freezing! They explained some safety rules and precautions to us, and soon it was time to hit the ice. “Walk on slowly and carefully”, the man told us. I saw people falling over, others skating gracefully, and Charlie- he was practically on a treadmill going 1kmph. Although I hadn’t done it in years, I thought I was doing really well at turning and I was going really fast! Could you do any better?

After the rest of Thursdays activities and packing up our night bags, we were at The Melbourne Zoo. The first animals that my group saw were the baboons. They were hysterical and kept posing for all our photos. We stayed there for ages watching them but after a while we headed off to the butterfly enclosure. We found a beautiful butterfly and it even sat on Lily’s palm! We had a snack break and then visited the… meerkats! I love seeing the meerkats because they’re so tiny and funny. They peer their miniature heads out from logs and other random things! It’s so adorable. We saw almost every animal before lunchtime and I had a blast!

The time had finally come to say goodbye to Melbourne and to get on the train home. I had a great time at camp with my friends and made so many memories. Camp can bring out a different side of people and now I’m even more excited than ever for yr 7 camp!

Urban Camp!

Charlotte - SL

Clickedy clank the train tracks shake as we are on the train to urban camp. My friends and I couldn't  wait!

The lack of personal space was an outrage. Everyone had  been confined to either a seat or handle, but by the time the train stopped we had all been chatting and laughing alongside each other. We walked to FED square where we all ate our snack/ lunch and  there were giant sculptures made of false eyeballs (which everyone loved).

We then made our way to the academy of moving images (ACMI).We  went across the road to Hozier lane and then to the Immigration museum, we learnt so much about our countries past difficulties and adventures. For dinner we went to the pancake parlour where we had pancakes for dinner and dessert. I did not particularly enjoy the bolognese pancakes but it was something new, on the other hand I had choc chip pancakes for dessert which was heavenly, I was in love.

The next day the teachers woke us up at 6:45am to head to Artvo. We enjoyed taking lots of pictures and selfies with the different types of paintings. They were SPECTACULAR!

We then had lunch and went ice skating. Everyone looked like little newborn calves on the ice but then everything went manic. There were people falling left, right and centre. After wards we went to MCG and the ASM (Australian sports museum).

For dinner we went to Universal pizza and pasta. They brought out pasta, pizza and soft drinks. We ran through the train station at 8 pm that night. The movie started and we were at camp watching Daddy Daycare. After the movie we had to go to bed but little did the teachers know we were still awake, then all we heard was laughter, because the teachers were all ecstatic with giggles and laughter. It was like they had just had laughing gas.

The last day had approached us so quickly but we were the first to be woken so we got to have the first shower  which was great. When we went to the Zoo we walked there because it was only a couple hundred metres away from the camp. We explored the zoo for 2 hours but then the time came , we had to go on the train back to Frankston station to meet our parents and go home… (that night I went to bed at 6:30) I had an amazing time!

CAMP RECOUNT

Cody - SL

SPLASH! My shoes were soaking wet after all that walking we had done today. We finally arrived at Strike Bowling at 6:30 PM. Since we were so late we didn't need our shoes , before you knew it we were bowling. I had been waiting all day for this but since we were a bit late we only had 60 mins to bowl. At the end I scored 54 tied in third with Charlie but we got 6 tries so I obviously would have won in the end! (wink wink…)

The next night we went to an all you can eat pizza pasta. They started bringing out pasta and I enjoyed the tomato one the most. After we got pizza, they made one of the best margaritas that I have ever eaten. I don't know why it didn't have pineapple though? Lei was also really funny because he kept on asking for jugs of coke. We had finished dinner and I was ready to go to bed so I went to sleep peacefully. (Well… That's what the teachers thought.)

I woke up so exhausted after all that walking the days before, but fortunately we only had the zoo left. So far I had enjoyed everything although the best bit was being away from school. Unfortunately I knew we would have to write a recount about camp!

The zoo was about a 10 minute walk from camp so we didn't catch any transport to get to the zoo. We all split into our groups for the zoo and walked off. My group started with the best animal baboons because they can get very funny. One of the baboons looked super annoyed as well as relaxed. They were super funny. We followed a trail that led to the butterflies. I only enjoyed the butterflies because they could land on you if you stayed very still.

I have had so much fun at camp and I wished it wasn't over. Strike bowling was still by far the best even though I was terrible at it. But I got third so that's a plus and i didnt get any help. I was a tiny bit excited to go home  to get some sleep. We were on the train having a great conversation and got interrupted by the train stopping. I couldn't wait to tell mum what I had done.
