That's a Wrap...

What a brilliant term we have had in Grade 5/6! We started the term with a trip to the snow, ended it with a Let's Get Moving performance, and had lots of sporting events, science fun and visitors to the school in between. This past fortnight has been just as jam packed as any other this term. We have some photos of our Talk Money incursion, Foodshare posters, Division Athletics team, basketball teams and dance practice.

Next Term!

Term 4 is always a busy term, but is often extra busy in the senior building! Our Grade 6 students will be continuing with some high school transition activities and preparing for the end of their time at primary school. Graduation is a fun way for students to celebrate their time at SGPS and for the teachers to cry about their departure. It is a fantastic event that involves a great deal of planning, preparation and practice. We will also have our Grade 6 End of School Celebration Day at the end of next term. At this stage, we have penciled in for the ceremony to take place on Thursday 15th December and the celebration to take place the following day on Friday 16th December. These days are yet to be confirmed so, as is the case with all school events, details will be communicated through the newsletter and/or Compass.

To start the new term we also have a lot of great learning planned. In English, over the first fortnight, students will look closely at author vocabulary choices and author structure choices while reading. These strategies are important when delving into the inner workings of a text. We will also transfer this knowledge into our writing sessions where students will think of themselves as great authors and make deliberate choices according to purpose and audience.

In Mathematics, we are focusing on the Statistics and Probability strand. The students will begin the term understanding the language of chance, determining the chance of given experiments and applying this knowledge to open ended activities. In Week 2, we will look at sets of data in many different forms and determine how to calculate the mean, median and mode through problem solving tasks.

We also have a lot of other great topics coming up next term that will sit alongside our English and Maths learning. Our Topic for Term 4 is 'Bizarre Bazaar'. The students will learn all about being a consumer, understanding the difference between goods and services, highlighting a need and a want and bringing all this information together in a great marketing showcase!

During STEAM time next term the Grade 6 students will participate in a Digital Design unit where they will get to design and print using our 3D Printer. The Grade 5 students will finally get to have a good play around with our Robotics equipment as part of their STEAM unit.

The Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) unit this term is 'Problem Solving'. Students will identify problems in given scenarios, participate in role plays, discuss different challenges faced in social situations and look at modifying an action based on advice.

We would like to thank you all for your support this term and we hope that all families have a safe and enjoyable break!
