Student Leadership

This week student leadership featured strongly with the 2023 College Captain and Executive Captain speeches as well as a very productive SRC meeting.

With over thirty-five candidates to choose from, students and staff had a difficult task of selecting the best candidates for each of the leadership positions. Each year we are seeing more and more students put themselves forward for leadership positions which reflects the great example previous and current students have provided as well as the dedication and work of House Leaders and staff in preparing students to step up as servant leaders within their community.  The shortlisting of candidates to be interviewed is underway which is the final stage of the process. I would like to thank all candidates for their courage and commitment to wanting to take on the challenge and work of leadership. Good luck and we look forward to announcing the successful candidates soon.

Student Representative Council (SRC) 2023 update

The student representative council (SRC) has commenced with this year’s students from various year levels. This group of students come together once a week to present ideas for school improvement and how they can help their peers have a better experience at school.

Every week SRC students along with the staff representatives discuss important topics such as child safety, care for the environment and overall student wellbeing. SRC representatives learn many crucial skills in these meetings in areas like planning, decision making, negotiating and time management which they can use in both their personal and professional lives.

SRC representatives aim to implement and model ROCKS in a creative manner and encourage the whole college community to get behind these initiatives. This empowers collective and individual student voices to be heard and ensures that their expectations are met.

Some of the SRC initiatives so far include:

  • Pick one up challenge – this is where every student in the college pledged to pick up one piece of rubbish every day.
  • R U OK day – SRC representatives work with other college leaders to organise R U OK day by running programs to ensure every member of our college community feels safe
  • Winter sleepout – assisting in organising a sleepout at school to raise funds for those in need in our community
  • Safe environments initiative

Students from all year levels are welcomed to be part of the SRC and are encouraged to speak with any of the SRC representatives if they have any ideas, concerns, or recommendations.

Environment Club

Strong leadership has been shown by Thomas our Environment Captain in leading staff and students in maintaining a commitment to keeping our school clean. Thomas met with the Property Manager Mr Bonnici and myself this week to discuss the growing nature of the school and therefore the need to not only have more bins but be strategic in the location. Viewing a map of the campus and examining the foot traffic in and around the buildings led to valuable discussion in future proofing the protection of our environment.  Student voice was at its best representing the views and needs of all students. Well done Thomas.

R U OK week starts on Monday, 5 September 2022. The VCAL students are once again planning some wonderful activities during recess and lunch as well as some informative sessions during TG.

This is a critical week where we shine a light on asking each other R U OK and importantly have the courage to say No if you don't feel ok.  Help is never far away.

Thursday, 8 September 2022 at 3pm we will have a colour run. This is such a fun event that we have missed over the last few years due to COVID. But it is back!

To participate in the colour run students must wear a white T-Shirt over your PE uniform. No T-Shirt no run as we do not want the uniform to be stained by the colours.

An old white T-Shirt or a cheap one from K-Mart is all that is needed to celebrate this important event.

I wish you all a safe and productive week.
