Science Week 2022
The theme for 2022 Science Week was ‘Glass - More Than Meets the Eye’. The College celebrated Science Week from the 15th-19th of August. Students were challenged with daily science quizzes based on this year’s theme. On Wednesday, the Science Department held a Science Extravaganza, with activities ranging from an epic Elephants Toothpaste demonstration, looking at how different types of glass smash and an eye dissection. The week finished with students in Year 8 presenting their Science Fair Projects. The winners of the Science Fair for the Cranbourne Campus were Hadisa Sadiqi and Nyagieth Obai who investigated “Does changing the price of lipstick affect the staying power of the lipstick?” Their research suggests that the more expensive lipsticks do not actually last longer.
SIS Debating - Round 2 Friday, 26 August 2022
Clyde North Campus
Friday's Round 2 of SIS Debating was much anticipated for both Campuses as we had been honing our talents after some mixed results from Round 1. Students were looking forward to fostering some cross campus rivalry with an early fixture against each other. The cliche 'practice makes perfect' was true as Clyde North Campus's three junior teams ended up 3 out of 4 wins, whilst the senior team went 2/2. It was exciting to see the depth of thinking in Clyde North Campus's debating squad on display as students who had not previously debated stepped up to the plate. First time debaters Iesha Boavida and Mikaela Lafaber helped the Senior Team over the line in the second debate of the day with the latter receiving best speaker. Overall, all students competed well and should be proud of the manner in which they represented the College. Congratulations to Junior Team 2 made up of Alyce Vassallo, Carmen Pratt, Chloe de Ocampo and Adrienne Castillo who will be aiming to win the SIS title this Friday.

It was a pleasure to accompany our Debating Team for Round 2 at St. Margaret’s Berwick Grammar School on Friday, 26 August 2022. All teams worked at their prepared and unprepared debates with determination and a keen sense of fair competitiveness. It was exciting to witness both their skills being honed in the debates and their exemplary behaviour in representing St. Peter’s College.
In addition to the tallied wins, adjudicators also saw fit to award several of our team members with "best speaker" awards, in recognition of their skill and hard work.
Results
The Junior Team won 1 out of their 2 debates
The Intermediate 1 Team won 1 out of their 2 debates.
The Intermediate 2 Team won both of their debates
The Senior Team won their first debate, but narrowly missed out on victory in the second round.
Overall the team won 5 out of 8 debates.

Tournament of Minds
On Saturday, 20 August 2022, 19 students from both campuses represented St. Peter’s College at the Metro Central Region Tournament of Minds at Deakin University’s Burwood Campus. The program aims to provide Primary and Secondary students with the opportunity to solve authentic, open-ended challenges that foster creative, divergent thinking whilst developing collaborative enterprise, excellence, and teamwork. Challenges are set in the educational disciplines of The Arts, Language, Literature, Social Sciences and STEM. The St. Peter’s College team should be congratulated for their efforts.
