Principal's Page

Dear Parents and Carers

This week, our school captains are our guest writers for the Principal's Page as they report on their attendance at the Diocesan Launch of World Mission Month.

Schools from all over the diocese came to Ruse to participate in a liturgy that was focused around the launch of Catholic Mission's Socktober. The liturgy was led by Bishop Brian.

The speakers from Catholic Mission educated us of the importance of education, food and how children and families in Ethiopia don’t have these things like we do. One of the speakers shared her experience of how Catholic Mission changed her and her family's lives. Catholic Mission has many outreach programs that cover food security and life-saving nutrition.

Socktober's ‘kicking goals for good’ was launched on 13 September and focuses on the people in Ethiopia and how they could be living life to the fullest. Catholic Mission, in the month of October, will focus on raising awareness of the people in Ethiopia. Agriculture is the job that most people rely on for work in Africa. So, this year’s mission appeal reaches out to churches in the area to help build up a goat farm, to teach and supply milk to families with babies to give them nutrition, and to give a stable food like cheese and butter.

Donations can just start from $50 and can employ a caretaker for the goats at the farm and a generous donation of $130 can feed and give medication to the goats.
If you would like to make a donation please fo to the Catholic Mission website.

Queen Elizabeth II

This week we also acknowledge Queen Elizabeth II and all that we can learn from her life. Last Friday at assembly, we reflected on just three of the values that she modelled.

The first was her commitment - to duty and the promise she made to serve. Students heard about the way they commit to their learning and the activities they are involved in at school. Commitment to serving others is what Jesus called us to.

The second was her perseverance even when things got tough for her. Students heard about perseverance when learning is challenging, about having grit and determination no matter how challenging. Reaching out to others helps us to persevere.

The third was her kindness. Many stories have been in the media about how kind she was to other people. All year, we have been focused on students being kind at St Joseph's and that acts of kindness not only make others happy but also contribute to our own happiness.

We give thanks for Her Majesty's life. As a woman of faith, she made a real difference in the world. May she rest in peace, in the loving arms of our God.

Public Holiday

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese recently announced that Thursday 22 September 2022 will be a public holiday for the National Day of Mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. All schools in the Diocese of Wollongong will be closed on this day and your child will not be required to attend. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Crazy Sock Day- (Gold coin donation- Catholic Mission Fundraising and Advocacy) will now be held on Friday 14 October (Term 4, Week 1)

For all things at St Joseph's, give thanks!

How does my child receive a Principal's Award?

Class teachers nominate students for Blue Merit Awards and are presented at the weekly assembly.  When five Blue Merit Awards have been received, students send them to the school office to be recorded and are then eligible for a Principal’s Award. When students attain their 4th Principal Award, they are awarded a Principal’s Medallion at an assembly. End of Term awards can be included as part of the 5 awards.
