YEAR 7 START PROGRAM

Over the past few months, the student wellbeing team has run a program with each of the Year 7 classes called START (School Transition and Resilience Training). This program uses a strengths-based approach to teach students steps towards resilience, including cognitive-behavioural strategies, social awareness, managing challenging emotions and mindfulness.

The social awareness component is the most recent addition to the program, as we seek to re-build some of the deficits we have seen in social development as a result of the past few years of Covid restrictions. The program also gave the students an opportunity to develop a stronger connection with members of the wellbeing team. Hopefully this increases the accessibility of wellbeing team members to students at times when they are facing some of the inevitable changes and challenges through the journey of adolescence.

Thanks to all Year 7 students for the positive manner in which they participated in the program.
