It is worth noting that not all of our staff are employed under a full-time timetable for many quite legitimate reasons. Hence, the number of teachers across each stage may vary according to the employment entitlements of the respective staff members. Nonetheless, as a school that has invested in research, training and professional development for effective collaborative co-teaching, our stage teams of skilful helpful adults meet and plan regularly for high-quality differentiated instruction. I hope that you join me in thanking the staff for their willingness and energy in sharing their teaching vocation with our great kids at Glen Innes!

Each year the local Rotary Club awards the Youth Citizenship Awards. The selection criteria are quite extensive and demanding -

  • Willingness to participate in voluntary activities.
  • Demonstrate fellowship, based on mutual respect, for all members of the school community.
  • Display qualities of ambition and leadership.
  • By industrious application of study, develop talents which are an example to fellow students.
  • Show a caring attitude toward junior pupils whether inside or outside the classroom.

It is my pleasure to share with you the deserved award winners from St Joseph’s School for 2022 are Allegra Pinferi and Grace Tarrant. Both students were nominated by the staff and now join a prestigious group of previous Year 6 graduates from St Joseph's who have received this significant award. Grace and Allegra will be presented with their award and deliver a short speech at the Rotary Glen Innes dinner at the Services Club on 5 December.

I re-publish the following notification about stationery and books for 2023 (...and yes I realise this significantly impacts the Christmas present buying schedule!?)

In the spirit of encouraging more time on task in classrooms and making our learning partnership even more affordable for families, we will be purchasing ALL stationery and exercise book items for every student at the school from 2023. Consequently, there will be no need for families to purchase exercise books, pens, pencils, pencil cases, highlighters, etc. etc. Every classroom will be fully stocked with these consumable items at hand and on the desks and shelves ready for students to more easily access  their learning. And even more importantly there will be no increase in school fees to cover these stationery purchases. In the spirit of understanding our families and their current increases in the cost of living expenses, the school will absorb these costs for 2023 under the current fee structure. I trust that this reduction in consumable costs for families and the removal of the stress of buying and restocking pencil cases and exercise books enhances our strong learning and wellbeing partnership at St Joseph's School Glen Innes.

Advance notice that the final Whole School Assembly for 2022 will be led by the Year 6 students and will celebrate their special time here at our wonderful school. Special invitations will be sent to Year 6 families, however for all families who wish to attend we will need to change the date to Thursday 1 December and begin much earlier than usual at 2 pm in the School Hall.

Take care everyone and enjoy the improved weather conditions!

May God go with you

Geoff McManus
