Last Monday staff worked in collaborative cross-school teams to review and refine our Inquiry Scope and Sequence. Inquiry-based learning helps us to foster a sense of wonder, adventure and curiosity and our Scope and Sequence (whole school plan) maps out the curriculum areas of Humanities (Geography and History), Science, Digital Technologies, and Health in a meaningful, appropriate and sequential manner so that across 7 school years student learning is scaffolded and enriched year after year. Our planning teams were led capably by Bron Draffin and Simone Bailey. We are so fortunate to have a team of educators who are ready to step up like Bron and Simone did to drive innovation and improvement.
Thank you to families who joined teachers in Parent Teacher Interviews. The home-school partnership is incredibly important and we know that the active involvement and understanding of families in a child's learning journey can have immensely positive effects on their progress and love of learning. Contemporary research consistently finds a strong and positive correlation between parents actively supporting their child’s learning, and student achievement (Education Endowment Foundation, 2018; Barker & Harris, 2020). Staff really enjoyed the opportunity during the interviews to share your child's successes as well as their next learning goals .
It could be said, that whilst we teach and talk all the time about our school values of Kindness, Resilience and Respect, the true mark of success is if those values are being demonstrated when 'no one is watching'. Children, like all human beings, will usually do the right thing when they think someone is watching but I'm sure you would agree that our hope as parents and educators is that children feel motivated to act in these ways simply because it is the 'right thing to do' regardless of who is watching. This week we see a perfect example of this intrinsic kindness shared by Sarah A (2A) and her family on the Student Achievements page and I hope you will take the time to read the submission and feel as proud as we do of this Kalinda student.
Take care, you matter a lot to me.
