Principal's report

Mr Shaun McClare

Acknowledgement of Country

Our Reconciliation Action Plan Working Party (comprising of parents and staff members) has devloped a school Acknowledgement of Country. This is the first of many actions that this Action Party is undertaking.

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung People of the Kulin nation; past, present and those who will walk with us into the future.

We acknowledge the rich and unique cultural and spiritual relationships to the land, waters and seas, educational practices and the hopes of all First Nations Peoples. We do this in the spirit of reconciliation as we move to a place of justice and partnership - together we work, learn, play and care for one another and this land.

Following your dreams

Our educators here at Kalinda are passionate about students 'dreaming big' about their futures and they work diligently to build student capacity to work towards achieving their dreams. We also love celebrating when students take initiative to pursue their dreams.

One of our year 6 students, Lucas, did a great job earlier this year in showing independence and initiative to pursue his dream of being a member of the airforce when he is older. He was inspired to be in the airforce after seeing Top Gun Maverick. He would love to be a fighter pilot or a flight instructor

Lucas decided to send a letter to the Australian Defence Force in Melbourne, but he wasn’t expecting a response.

A short while later, Flight Lieutenant Ross (call sign Buga) wrote back about how the airforce is a great job and really enjoys it and spoke about his own role in the airforce. He supported Lucas' dream and encouraged him to keep pursuing it.

This response gave Lucas a great boost, and he is keen to do everything he can to work towards it. His aim now is to build his learning skills and his discipline. He has also put in an application to join the Flight Cadets.

Good luck to Lucas in pursuing your dream, and to all of our students. Through hard work, dedication and persistence you can make your dreams come true.

Works around the school

Over the last few weeks you may have noticed a number of projects happening around our school grounds. These include: the installation of Solar Panels on our main building; creating outdoor furniture from the trees that were taken down near the basketball courts; and the installation of shade sails overlooking the oval.

Over the next few years we are planning a number of significant works across the school to ensure our school continues to provide facilities that are environmentally sustainable, enhance learning results for all students, and allows space for a range of activities that promote and support student health and wellbeing.
